I don't claim to be an expert on UKIP, but the way I understand they are not against immigration as such; they are opposed to the potentially unlimited immigration of unskilled or low-skilled people they believe (rightly or wrongly) EU law would allow. So they are against ceding control of our borders to an unelected institution that would force us to let anyone in regardless of social consequences.

Agree or disagree, the UK did not become "a wonderful, proud, diverse and free country" by calling those who don't share your views racist idiots - which is how UKIP tend to get treated. (Not that this guy is helping)

By circulation the Daily Mail is the second largest newspaper in the UK, with a predominantly female readership. The only rag that manages to sell more is The Sun, and that's mainly due to the fact that the brain damage victims who buy it find it easier to read crayon than print.

UKIP are a single issue party with no prospects of forming a coalition with a major party due to their perceived toxicity. They'll never be in a position to exercise any real domestic power without a sea change in how they are perceived by the majority of the voting public - an unlikely outcome when you have muppets like him and Godfrey Bloom out and about.

If I'd made such remarks in a professional capacity I'd have no illusions about going to collect my P45. Quite how a mere suspension is a fitting reaction for a figure in public office, I'm not sure I understand.

I would just like to put it out there for the record that this man is completely incorrect, and I have had absolutely nothing to do with the weather or other events within the UK in recent months.

There are certain jobs where any sort of leave will result in the loss of clients/portfolio and thus that employee would be worth less to the business. This is the case for anyone regardless of gender/religion etc etc.

It's not all about client-facing businesses either. Even a GP taking leave for a significant amount of time will result in a loss of continuity of service which is crucial when dealing with terminal patients and patients with complicated medical history.

I think a lot of people fail to understand this simple point. It really has nothing to do with gender it applies to anyone who is 'out the game' for a period of time. The best thing businesses can do in terms of women taking maternity leave is provide them with the help and support to get back on their feet and back to their former glory so to speak because it is irrefutable that women are just as talented as men in business.

Because they exclude 99% of Chinese, Japanese and African people just because of the country they were born in as a pose to what they can offer for Britain.
 
Can I just point out that the Councillor in question was suspended from the party. The guy is a nutjob and Farage was outraged at his comment.

I don't like UKIP, but they seem to be becoming more moderate/mainstream. Farage has said some things that I agree - though these are far outweighed by the rest of his policies.

The cynical side of me suspects it may be due to the fact Farage is intelligent enough to know that to have any hope of gaining power he needs to remove the fruitcakes, homophobes & racists from the party.

The real question is how many will be left once they are gone. :p
