Hi,

I just added a 2nd 7970 for crossfire..

I use v.sync on 60hz monitor at 1920x1200
But it's so slow and stuttery in BF4 it's nuts  like a lot of micro stutters, just not smooth like i thought it would be!
Running on single card on both are fine.

I did notice one card has different bios to the other.. would this be a problem?

My spec!

Win 8.1 64bit
Phanteks PH-TC14PE CPU Cooler
i5-3570K -- i7-3770K to be installed!
Crucial RealSSD M4 256GB X 2 Raid0
GA-Z77X-UD5H (rev. 1.0)
Kingston HyperX Genesis 16.0 GB
2 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3X.
Seasonic 860w '80 Plus Platinum' Modular Power Supply

Cheers :)

different 7970s/bios arent a problem... to me it sounds like you need to disable ULPS. download msi afterburner, go to settings and check disable ULPS, restart ur pc and it should be fixed(touch wood)

Make sure you're using the latest beta as well. I have 2x 7970 and everything is v smooth at 1080p. I even run at 125 scaling.

1. If you want to use vsync in BF4 disable frame pacing via CCC first. There is a bug regarding vsync and frame pacing in BF4. The good thing is if you use vsync, you don't need frame pacing on BF4 as there is no microstutter.

2. If you insist on using frame pacing you need to play without vsync until its fixed in a driver. The issue is under investigation after i submitted evidence of it to AMD/EA.

3. Disabling ULPS is good advice as well so do that, but it won't make any difference to this issue. However it will improve performance 0.1%-5%.

4. The vsync bug appears to affect Win8/8.1 only afaik. Make sure you use the latest 13.12 WHQL drivers.

Solution, Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 / 780 Ti :p

Great time to sell your 7970's as they get a decent price atm thanks to mining..

What LT wrote about ULPS etc might be a great help, I always disabled ULPS even with single AMD GPU..

With my 7990 i found turning off both frame pacing and v sync gave me the best results. At least on W8.1
It sounds daft but give it a go. Frame pacing somehow made BF4 unplayable for me.

Its a bug with the drivers and BF4. When i had my 7990 it was a case of use frame pacing and keep vsync off, or disable frame pacing and use vsync. Both were equally as smooth.

You had i5 mind you, that probably played its part.

Hi Guys,

Ok i done a complete format reinstall of win 8.1
I havn't updated the driver for the motherboard, as it seems windows had already installed all the drivers, or would i had to still do these from the website..
as for chipset drivers, is there an updated one, if so, what one is it?

I also installed my new 7-3770K, running at 4.5! volts may seem high? but temps are ok in game! something i need to mess with more.
is there anything else i should enable/disable in the bios for this chip, like Hyperthreading etc?

1 card seems to have voltage locked, the other one isn't lock.
can the bios be updated to unlock it?
there is also a switch on the cards, choice to select 1 or 2. what's that for?

I added some pics of ingame etc, to see if you might notice anything that i don't?

It seems the crazy micro stutter helped abit with what u guys said!
But it still don't feel smooth at all.. panning left, right, up, down, just isn't smooth enough. it's like a strange lag feeling also.

from the pics in BF4 and BF3, you will see the cpu usage is a lot better then my i5-3570K i had.

The GPU'S don't seem to go much over 50% usage, it's like there not doing as there told :D so i'm not sure what the problem could be :(

Must be the pc, as this happends in both games..
Any ideas guys?

Thanks a lot!

I never use v sync.
With frame pacing off it was smooth with my i5 in single player at 100+fps. With it turned on it was horrible, like it was skipping frames constantly. It was the same with Heaven too. Bug with W8 drivers I think.

The Gpu's will not go much above what you are are showing with vsync on because you are capping their work load, this was my 7970 xfire results vsync on and off.

I just tried this, and yes you're right, v.sync off boosts my gpu's to 98%..

Problem is now, the tearing feels so bad, i can't play like that :(

So how on earth do others play with v.sync on and max there cards in crossfire for smooth game play? :p
Looks like i might be going back to single card if i can't get it to work with v.sync on.. is there anything i can write in a file to go into the game?

Create a BF4 profile in CCC, disable frame pacing. It should now be smooth.

As you can see in the pics, disable frame pacing is disabled :)

Create a BF4 profile in CCC? like what.. never done this.
Do you use v.sync ? is there any other setting you use

Cheers :)

Anyone got any ideas? User.cfg File or something maybe

What difference would it make if they were getting maxed or not as long as they held 60fps with vsync on?

I run a similar system to yours and don't have any of these issues. When was the last time you updated your mobo bios?

Yeah i guess you're right! was just thinking it should be using the power :) but my first time with crossfire, so abit new to me ;)

as for The bios, i have the F14.
There is a Beta BIOS F15q since 2013/01/07 on the website, worth updating to this ?..

Are you also running v.sync ?
Did you change anything in the CCC?

Cheers..

Dunno. It may well be worth it considering F14 came out in 2012.

I don't use vsync as I get barely any screen tearing without it and don't have any issues with both vsync and frame pacing enabled either fwiw.
No changes in CCC :)

My AB settings (Cards are OC'd - for the sake of it tbh):

Also, cpu cores are unparked using this app.
