Worth upgrading from phenom II 1100t?

Under testing voltage would probably be higher.

That chip could have gone further, but my PSU was limiting me due to it being a quad rail, sustained load at a higher voltage would cut off :p

Lets not forget that overclocking the CPU benefits the Phenom II's more than it does the PD's, so stock for stock comparisons don't give the whole picture.

My properly clocked Thuban in most games would be up there easy with an FX83.

I've just been comparing my fx8320 at 3.2, 3.8. 4.1 and 4.5 Vs a b55 at the the same range of speeds exc 4.5. Hmmm in gaming so far only tested fc3 the fx8 doesn't look too great until at least 4.7/4.8 !

More to come on this.... Yeah my titan fenrir would top 48c at 1.60v on the 4.3ghz b55. At 1.40v 4.5 ghz the titan fenrir holds the fx8 at 60c cpu/43c core p95 stable 1 hour

As said before martini proper overclocking for your 1055t there, I think it would match an fx8 at 4.9-5.0 in pretty much all situations, but in unreal synthetic benches it would lose due to
Extensions that the fx8 can utilise.

I'm not sure im still working on this but I think piledriver needs 600mhz over a phII to gain parity.im still working on this so let me provide real data on it.

No worries :p

Apparently I benched it at 4.5GHZ going through my posts at the time, I also had some AMD G.Skill flame memory, but I haven't a clue about it :p

I know the CPU-NB went upto 3.2GHZ too.

Humbug that was good voltage for that clock, I remember telling you before in a previous thread.

It was a golden Chip, manufactured early 2010, it had a hard first 2 years or its life, ran it at 4.3Ghz constantly hard data crunching, it all but gave up about 6 months ago, its wrecked now. :(

Do you want me to pull the phase pics out and show you some 4.8, 5 and 5.27Ghz awesomeness?

But on another note, you have to get that chip back.

Really! Funny that because people have posted actual pictures of graphs that show massive frame rate differences :D

If it's on the internetz it must be true :D

Looking forward to seeing what your findings are sir!

Ok heres some data for you tc, i've got a lot more in the works but this is just one game representation.

This is just fc3, comparing a phII x4 b55 3.2ghz to 4.3ghz 2600cpu-nb, ddr3 1600 ram. The fx8320 scales 3.2ghz to 4.8ghz cpu-nb 2200 ddr3 1600.

The gpu is a 7950 which uses a mild clock of 1050c 1600m using cat 13.12.

The graphs will show the gpu usage and how each overclock improves the gpu usage. I'll let you decide to what you think of the fx8 in comparison, not forgetting that you also own an x6 too.

B55 3.2ghz 3.8ghz 4.3ghz

fx8 3.8ghz 4.5ghz 4.8ghz

What Martin Said. we are now actually on the third gen FX CPU's, like Llano, Trinity and Richland, only AMD refreshed the the second to third FX silently.

I have had built several FX-8350 rigs for others in recent times, its not difficult to get them running at 4.8Ghz on a half decent air cooler, this is coming from someone who owned a P-II 1090T running at 4.1 to 4.3Ghz at best, the FX-8350 is a significantly faster and better chip.
personally my advice to anyone with a Thuban and an FX compatible motherboard is to upgrade to the FX-83## if they can get most of the money together from selling the Thuban.
Failing that an i5 is a more 'consistent' performing CPU for games, having said that i agree with what you have also said, the FX-83## is not a bad chip, at worst in something like World of Warcraft its still running something like 80 FPS, which is also significantly more than a Thuban 1100T.
£110 for the 8320 or £140 for the 8350 is the best CPU there is for that money.
I would be perfectly happy to run the latest version in my gamers rig if i didn't already have an i7.

LLano was stars though rather than bulldozer architecture.

Is there anything to support whether the newer FXs are better? and is it better clock for clock or just clock higher with lower temps?

I went from a 960T unlocked to 6 cores and clocked to about 4ghz to a 8350. It had noticeable increases to frame rates on benchmarks and meant I could run my ram at it's proper rated speed of 2133.

From my testing nope fx isn't better clock for clock, if you are comparing core count.

An fx43*0 for example needs upwards of 600mhz in comparison to an phII x4 to gain parity/slightly outperform it.

so much debate over specs. It really just comes down to what games you like to play, newer games with good core optimisation? go with 83**, older or less optimised? stick with the 1100t.

I myself have held off buying a 83** because the games I play mostly only make use of 1-2 cores and it would be a downgrade. A 1100t actually looks like a nice middle ground for me when I play games Like bf4 but the prices for one are pretty high. you can get a Bgrade 8350 for under £100 and a new 8320 for £110 which is less than what some people sell a used 1100t for.

yeah an 83** is going to be a downgrade for some games but it's a bigger upgrade in others and while a hassle to sell parts you could possibly cover the price of a new cpu and If you really wanted you could sell the sabertooth as well and have a nice bit of cash to put towards an intel upgrade.
