i have a hp envy laptop that currently has a 5400rpm drive. which feels quite sluggish.

ive got a SSD in my PC & love it

but cannot decide if 7200rpm,SSDHD,SSD would be best for a laptop

anyone have experience of ssdhd?

i think i would need to get a 256GB ssd which is expensive.

How much space do you need on it? You can easily get your OS with updates and office to fit on 30gb.

yep, i had a normal hd in my ps4 and i changed it to sshd and its a lot quieter and loads stuff quicker but its not as fast an ssd
if that helps

You can get 250GB of "pure" SSD for about £125.

Is that expensive ?

Well, it is if....

a) You haven't got the money or b) You compare the £/GB with a mechancial HDD.

It isn't expensive when you consider the overall performance gain that it gives over a mechanical drive.

I`ve never used a hybrid drive, so I can't give any advice or opinion. I suspect that if you can afford ~£130 and 250GB is eneough capacity, a "proper" SSD is the way to go.

its not that a 256GB SSD is "that" expensive.

i use this laptop for programming & will use it for Gaming (Lan) in august

so wondering if 250GB would be enough space.

programming + oS should be ok on around 60GB i guess
would leave 200GB for games....

but what is ssdHD like in a laptop and can they actually fit?

Yes, they can fit (he says, without having actually fitted one).

I`ve done a bit of programming (in the loosest possible terms). Your IDE shouldn't take much space. I wouldn't have thought source code takes up much room, unless it's pretty "serious".

200GB for games means that you should easily be able to install half a dozen "big" games. Although you won't quite have 200GB if you have already used 60GB. It'll probably be closer to 190GB, or less if you allow "breathing space" on your SSD.
