How much should this cost? £300 sounds like BS

Try http://www.gsfcarparts.com as well.

Bare in mind sometimes there is sometimes a choice of pads and discs depending on their size and breaks in chassis numbers. You will get the parts for less than £100. It doesn't cost £200 to replace a set of front discs and pads.

Take it elsewhere.

Audi quoted me £250 to supply and fit front brake discs + pads. That's at Plymouth Audi... VW should be cheaper.

Or buy a trolley jack and axle stands on ebay and do it yourself?

Eurocarparts showing about £35 for each disk and £35 for a set of pads (one axle). So parts alone from them would be £210.00. Leaves £90 to fit, could be about a 2 hour job?

I don't think you'll get much cheaper.

2x Disc @ £35 = £70
1x pad set @ 35 = £35

Total = £105? :p

Oh and that price is shocking - Honda are on a rip off mission for my car, but

Front brake pads and discs (pair)£270

Fitted obviously.

I think the bigger reason is the "Yeah I'm sure they are the right ones mate." only to find they aren't and you've now got a half finished job on the ramps while you contact the customer and wait for the right parts to turn up.

I've had garages only want to fit their parts, but also some willing to fit customer provided.

It's swings and roundabouts. Honda main dealer in Watford used to fit all stuff I bought myself (fluids usually, but also some mugen parts) but I used them for other bits (brake calipers etc).

It's their choice, and you can understand why a garage would want to only fit parts they provide. If they break, or cause consequential damage, where does the fault end up?

depends entirely on the garage

so many local independents are just wideboys out to make money out of you anyway possible.

People who have a good one don't post on here asking for prices on stuff because they know they've got a decent price.

Sadly I've tried all of the local garages to me over the years and they all fit into the wide boy category. I just take mine to the dealers now.

Read fixed price off website, book car in, turn up, collect courtesy car, drive to work. Return next morning, hand over loan car and drive to work in mine. But i'm lucky that my local dealer is a local firm called cars2 who have 3 dealers of various marques across yorkshire.

2 hours to change front pads and discs? More like 30 mins (In fact for a garage with a lift and air tools you're probably talking less than 20)

I can manually do a front wheel on my Focus in 15-20 mins if the brake caliper bolts aren't seized.
It costs under £40 for two front sets discs and pads, I can't complain.
I'm certainly not going to pay a mechanic to do what is such a simple job.
