Are PC's/tablets being made so simple they are becoming complicated?

The Ribbon is actually very simple and easy to use. Bit shocked you couldn't grasp it to be honest.

I doubt that you have actually spent hours trying to learn it.

I was 1st-line support for end users of 2003 for a few years and 2007 for a few more years. Doubt me all you like, but I know which of the 2 I prefer.

I don't like windows 8 but then Im not used to it.

Its aimed far to much at a tablet where you use your finger to swipe across the screen, I dont think it works well with a mouse and works even less with a trackpad on a laptop.

Autodesk added a ribbon to Autocad, I have no idea what its trying to do or what its about. The first thing I ever do is switch to classic view. The only people I know who use it are the "noobs" who have started using the software post ribbon introduction, they are the industry underclass, the elite like me use shortcut commands and set their command line blue with command text yellow like it was back in the days of DOS.

No it should not. Most device now are phones and tablets, and lappys, PC desktops are dying breed, and the interfaces need to change else windows as an OS will be lost forever.
It isn't my preference, but when setup it is fine for most things.

Laptops are pretty much the same as desktops regarding user interaction, so the GUI should be the same. And workstations are going as strong as ever, desktops will not die given their performance over portable devices.

I hope that Windows 9 is less of Windows 8 and more of Windows 7. There's a reason Steve Ballmer is no longer with Microsoft and I somehow don't think it's attributed to the success of Windows 8. ;)

With regards to the ribbon bar, I'd say that it's a nicer way to explore the controls of a new application than many toolbars or menu systems. Things like live preview of the effect of choosing an option when you hover over it is nice in Word.

I'd take an old version of Linux over DOS any day. Much better command line and bash scripting is a lot better than writing BAT files.

Windows 8 and 8.1 i find is not helpful or intuitive (at least for me). I am the sort of user who keeps the desktop clear of pretty much everything. Just the odd shortcut for folders i am working on and thats it. After playing around with the mrs new lenovo Yoga, i have to say i will be passing on all this multi screen ********. A screen for starting, a screen for a gazzilion programs or apps and a normal desktop screen which you have to download APPS to fix again it seems.

YES I FIND IT ******** actually its worse than that.

I think i am the only user who doesn't give a flying fig about a app that can blink and tell me something X has happened or a ferret has escaped in a old peoples home and turned them all into sheep. In-fact most apps i have come across including phones are complete waste of time, money and space.

I'm glad someone agrees with me regarding the ribbon!

It will be interesting what the next Windows will be called. Technically, W7 was 6.1 and W8 was 6.2 by kernel numbers. M$, however, named them as W7/W8 to distance them from Vista. Personally, I didn't find Vista that bad - my legacy apps worked fine on it and I found it stable. UAC I found over protective though but it can be turned off. Windows ME though...
