No, I just don't have a lot of other commitments.

My ex decided she prefers South Africa to me

I have no Kids

I can not drive a car (no coordination)

So that just leaves Computers.:D

As to my older cards, for gaming I still like using them, my GTX 690s I use 24/7.

As to some of my other cards like the GTX 590s or HD 5970s they are so ancient that they are not worth very much.

I know how much one of these people earns and it is a lot *no one on here* but that aside it still seems like such a waste every year spending thousands upon thousands on these incremental circuit board updates.
From an average persons perspective it just seems quite sad.

Most hobbies are a waste of money really. But if people get enjoyment from it then so what? I'm not sure that trying to belittle a hobby by keep saying 'incremental circuit board updates' is really that good to be honest. Perhaps you're not but that's the impression that is coming across.

I don't think you should really be judging people based on it. As I said, it's all relative to whatever that persons disposable income is as well. 'Thousands upon thousands' a year could be only 10% of someone's disposable income or it could be 75%. I don't see an issue with it either way - whatever people want to spend their money on for enjoyment is none of my or your business :).

That's a strange viewpoint to have considering you are a regular on the OcUK forums. There are hobbies out there that cost ten times as much as being a computer enthusiast, and there also hobbies which cost a tenth of it - what does it matter? If you enjoy it, then spend as much as you want on it - as long as you're not spending other people's money of course!

1.6mhash+ for <£600 and these will fly off the shelves!

Going by 7970/7990 performance your probably looking at 1.7MH/s, and it would fly off the shelves at <700-800 anyway as 600 would be cheaper than a pair of R290's. Don't forget a dual 290 card will use less juice than a pair of 290's and energy saving is just as important as hashrate to a degree.

I think they'd be struggling to manage thermals and power supply to a dual Hawaii card.

Not if it came with a nice waterblock as standard.

Clock it up to 1250/1800 using Samsung memory and sell it for less than £900

That will put a dent in NVidia's sales.:D

Yeah but from a practical POV, imagine the size of the PCB and the VRMs, the memory, the cores, then imagine the power supply sockets, the weight of the cooling solution......

Nah, it'd be a real poopfight. Simpler and cleaner to stick with single cards until whatever's after 20nm.

How would it be really any worse than the 7990 waterblock? If you're running these kind of cards you're going to have a big chassis. Least you should do

The 7990 was a kettle but Hawaii is a pressure cooker in comparison. To my mind it could be done but it would be so much potential trouble that the end result would damage the brand, and it would kill the value model that the R9 has established.

A fools errand that would end up costing more in goodwill than it would reap in circle jerking - or performance for that matter, but that's just IMO.
