Nvidia and HDMI out less colour range

It seems that some monitors connected using HDMI from Nvidia cards see it as a HDTV and output less colour range.
my question is regarding going DVI out from card to HDMI in on monitor.
does the monitor read the dvi signal or because its coming into its HDMI input does it read that.
I understand by going DVI to DVI will erase the problem but if some TVs can display full range but don't have dvi inputs then DVI to hdmi is the only option.

It would still see it as Hdmi. My Amd cards see the TV when connected by Hdmi. Inside the Amd software O can select the RGb range for that output. Is they not something the same in nvidia drivers?

Movie viewing is shot in rgb standard, people not understand this and watching movies in rgb full will be getting crushed blacks.

What's missing from Amd drivers that will mess up viewing of material?

You get things present on nVidia that aren't present on AMD and vice-versa. It's part and parcel of choosing your GPU. Most things missing can be worked around via an external solution.

Can't comment on eyefinity, but you can make your own custom resolution and change refresh rate.
I know This because when I used to only use my Hdtv crysis games will not use 1080p at 60hz so I had to make a custom res of 1920x1075
Stupid crysis bug that is on all 3 games.
 
Try and bump a 60 Hz monitor to 100 Hz via the drivers - that was what I was referring to :p. The point wasn't to do with the specifics of what is there and what isn't anyway - but you asked for an example... more that certain things are there for AMD and certain things are there for nVidia.

You were asking why it is not in the drivers so I was merely illustrating the above point.

But it's a basic feature for movie viewing that should be there is my point.
Adding extra hurtz is not going to change anything to do with movies.
 
Being able to set a custom refresh rate or manually correct the bezel for Eyefinity is a basic feature of gaming which should be there.

I never said it shouldn't be there - I was just pointing out that the same thing (missing basic features) could be said of the AMD drivers as well. Again, you're talking specifically about movies when my point was a 'in general' point to illustrate that certain things are missing from both sets of drivers which can add a layer of inconvenience.

I think you're interpreting it as an attack on AMD drivers. If you are then you're wrong but I'll say that anyway to save you from continuing to become all defensive.

I know this thread is specifically regarding the colour range via HDMI but I state again that I was just making a general point regarding the issue of a missing feature.

This is the problem about google searching without understanding :p. I have used Eyefinity you see. You can't manually enter in the number of pixels for bezel correction with the AMD drivers. You have to line up yellow triangles which will give you a slightly wonky resolution due to the implementation of it. On nVidia you just type in the number of pixels you want to adjust for bezel correction and the visual aid adjusts.

It used to be in the nVidia drivers until recently - one of the recent drivers horribly broke it and you could get stuck in ycbcr444 color space or something until you reinstalled the drivers and they seem to have pulled the option for now :S atleast I can't see it there any more from a quick glance though I don't have the displays hooked up that I had when I discovered the problem with it heh.
