Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 4th February 2014]

Well, Moyes has to stay till the Summer, at least.
No point bringing in an interim manager right now.

I said this last Summer - get Mourinho. Give him the money he wants and tell him to stay for 5-10 years and make Man Utd the best club in the World. Many people on this board stated that JM would play boring football, but I'd rather that, than get hammered.

I'm not actually bothered too much about yesterday's loss, because (although they played badly) the team were attacking hard and laying siege to the opponents goal. Eventually, Stoke would've capitulated...but we ran out of time.

The game that really got to me was the loss to Sunderland, at Old Trafford, when we were defending and not attacking...against Sunderland. Previously, these were the sorts of games where Fergie would tell his players to put 4 or more goals past them, but Moyes was defending and playing unadventurous football.

A lot of people keep mentioning average-good managers like Alladyce (or similar).
Guys, this is Man Utd, we dont want average...we want the best. To compete against Real Madrid, Barca and Bayern, we need a big name manager and no British manager fits this bill.

I'd be tempted to ask Jupp Heynckes to come out of retirement, given that Mourinho will be with Chelsea for at least the next 2 years.

In any case, I hope that Moyes turns things around in the next few months.

Our hopes of top four are pretty much ruined with no sign of it getting better. He's won 12 league games and lost 8!

Dude, did you seriously believe we could get to 4th place?
We are 7th and deserve to be in 7th place.

Liverpool are untouchable, unless Suarez gets injured.
Everton have Martinez, who I can't see getting beat by Moyes.
But I do think we can overtake Tottenham.

6th place, under Moyes, is definitely doable.
4th place would require a minor miracle (eg. Fergie returning or Mourinho joining Utd in the next 2 weeks).

Of course, our strongest eleven is capable of it, even though it'd be tight.

I wouldn't call Liverpool untouchable, they're fragile defensively and are being carried by some good attacking play - no reason it can't be similar for us. Unfortunately, even Suarez would be useless if you kept hoofing it up to him. :p

Moyes just strikes me as a dinosaur who is way out of his depth. The whole "I'm very pleased with the way we played" directly after dropped points against relegation fodder teams might wash at Everton, but Man Utd should really expect more. His appointment was totally bizarre in general, he's never achieved anything, he has no philosophy, apparently no tactical nous whatsoever and clearly he has no idea how a manager of a club like United should conduct themselves after dire performances against woeful teams.

No point in giving him another season.
I don't recall Everton being this bad or even bad last season..

Everton were much much worse, not last season but previously. He needs time to build his own team and get rid of a lot of players. He won't get it though and I can understand why in a side that's used to winning something every year.

No one in these threads has ever mentioned Alladyce or similar average british managers

He wouldn't have said that after a few years at Everton either. I'm sure Wenger though has said similar to defend a team not winning games.

The fact is, whilst our team isn't perhaps quite up to the standard of Chelsea or Man City, we WON the Premier League last season. We have the same team + 65 million spent on it and now it looks like a top 6 finish might be pushing it.

I never expected us to win the league, but i thought the very least Moyes could do was get us in the Champions League ( predicted a 3rd or 4th place finish).

No Champions League for United next season will be a disaster.

I dont think his job has been helped by the plague of injuries going through the squad; is that partially his fault? only someone on the inside could really say.

Look at it this way, Rooney had been resurgent this season, until his injury. So surely the training regimes cant be that bad?

I think utd supporters problem isn't just the fact there losing it's same problem we had with hodgeson he is showing no improvements in any game nor any different tactics refuses to try new ideas etc

OK thanks for clearing that up.

Now please read at least some of the thread.

Re read same problems utd fans have had for last few weeks that get posted in every weekend football thread er no, so mr grumps ill pass. Anyway hopefully we play countinho in that deeper role again but if Allen is back I sense we will move him further up again. Gerrard will hopefully play as good as last weekend that was only time he seemed comfortable in the dm role partly due to evertons dismal display but will of helped his confidence

Yes. Yes it will.

I don't really think it's a question of winning anything, or time. I just want to see something positive on the pitch. Something being worked on. Not the same turgid dross every week. Have you watched us play at all? The team looks like it has no direction, I bet there are League 2 sides playing better football. At times the players look as if they can't be bothered, like the defending against Chelsea.

Injuries haven't helped, whether that's Moyes fault or not I don't know, but all teams get injuries, and we do have a fair amount of depth.

In the game yesterday I think we had just two passes from the 'hole' position, one into RvP, which he scored. The other bounced off Danny Welbeck, or he missed it. Everything else came from the full backs, crossing (which is sadly what Moyes wanted).

Look at the Man Utd website and Twitter, it's full of quotes from the manager and the players, complaining about luck and saying we "should have won". It's a shambles, there's a defeatist mentality here now I'm afraid.

Correct.

Yes. Yes it will.

:D

It will be bad and somewhat unexpected, but not the end of the world. If we can't get back in, that's where there will be a serious problem. In the event that looks likely, Moyes will be gone before any more damage can be done. Long gone, most likely.

The last time United lost as many as eight of their opening 24 games in a league season was in 1989-90.

Yep.
He didnt work out for Liverpool, but it got him the England manager's job ;)
Perhaps Moyes will be Scotland's next manager. :p

Moyes just needs time, about 19 years should do it.

:D

LOL.
Damn YOU!!!!

:D

Please use the multi-quote function rather than just adding single consecutive posts all the time if there is no-one else posting in between. Thank you.
