Just ordered 2 x GTX780Ti. Am I mad?

As title, had a slight impulse buy today. Been pondering over buying 2x GTX780's for a while (upgrade itch) but saw the inno3D 780Ti versions on here today for the psychologically important sub £500 price point (£499.99 to be precise) and pulled the trigger on 2

Now, a couple of things...

1. I like to game at max settings, and tweaking and all that goes with it is part of the fun for me. I consider anything less than a locked 60fps minimum a fail when I'm gaming.

2. I currently game at 2560x1080 (21:9 super wide) so this is a fair bit more demanding than 1920x1080, but a fair bit lower than 2560x1440. A happy medium you might say. This monitor also overclocks to 75hz which I'd like to run at if I have the GPU power.

3. I currently have 2x GTX 670's in SLI that cope with most games ok, but my daft passion at the moment is skyrim, fully modded up with texture packs and ENB. My 670's in SLI are struggling quite a lot with this now to be honest.

4. My PSU is an XFX pro 750 watt. XFX are basically a rebadged seasonic I believe so it's a good solid PSU.

I know that's cutting it fine with the PSU (looking around the web there are many people who say 780ti SLI will be fine with 750-800 watt, many who say it won't). I won't be overclocking the 780's, but my CPU, an i72600k, is and will be overclocked at 4.6.

I've seen other posts on here with similar 780ti SLI systems and beefier CPU's than mine saying their systems peak at about 650 watts. I've also used an online power calculator and that came back at about 650 watts estimated total system usage for all my components ***EDIT*** - this includes setting my cpu at a 4.6 overclock and the volts at 1.3

So...

- Any more opinions on the PSU front? I'd rather not upgrade that if I don't have to.

- Do you think I might get away with just one 780ti for my current needs? Will that extra 1GB ram and the 200 odd extra stream processors make the difference I need for Skyrim, for example?

One thing that might sway it is, the new larger super wides (3440 x 1440) are a definite possible future upgrade for me monitor wise in the future, and SLI anything will be a must for them.

So buy 2 780Ti's now to be prepared, or buy one now (return the other) and buy another down the line if I upgrade my monitor?

Or, send them both back, smack myself around the head a bit, and wait for maxwell? :D

If you have a serious upgrade itch, then why not buy just the 1 780ti, sell your CPU and mobo combo, slap in a 4770k / z87 combo, recoup some cash from your other cards / cpu / mobo. As pointed out, 1 is plenty really.

One is plenty

Might be, might not :)

Only upgrade itch I have is on the GPU front. No interest and no need to upgrade my cpu or motherboard is there? an i7 at 4.6 is plenty grunt isn't it?

Yes you are mad.

Doesn't mean you can't enjoy your awesomely insane GPU setup :D
The extra vram will also help a lot with modded skyrim.

Not sure if the 750w will coupe with them or not really, might be ok given that its a good PSU and you wont be overclocking the cards.

Gone for 2 as one, even a Ti isn't a significant leap over SLI 670s. In some benches SLI 670s are as good if not better.

Perhaps I should just have gone for 780s rather than Ti, but seemed a good offer on the inno3d at the mo. Gah.

As already said if money is no object then enjoy :) Its great cards and will provide a lot of power.

With regards should you return one and keep one? Well youd have to look at some benchmarks but I cant imagine one 780ti is a lot more powerful (if at all)than 670sli apart from when vram becomes an issue.

If you ended up keeping one 780ti I think chances are you wouldnt add an other 780ti down the road as youd end up getting a new maxwell card when it comes out instead.

So in my mind its an option of keeping what you had (670sli) or enjoying the new cards when they arrive.

If you got the cash, why not, enjoy your monster setup that won't need an upgrade for a fair old while :D

My seasonic 660w keeps up with 2x780's with modded bios' and a 2500k at 5GHz all under water :)

Seriously??? The psu requirement is the biggest nag for me at the moment. This is great to hear. Do you think my xfx 750 pro (I think its 'silver rated' ) will be up to the job then, given that they are rebranded seasonics?

Well as you said 1 780ti would have been a down grade on games that get decent sli performance.

I'd be interested in how much improvement you get with skyrim though as I was under the impression it was very CPU bound, certainly at 1080p it's the CPU that is the limiting factor on my PC?

Not sure I can put a final figure on it from the jumble. 620W system max?

If this is your PSU

then 744W on the 12v rail; you'll be fine.

A bit mad for getting 2 x 780Tis but as said if you have the money to splash then why not.

Nearly my psu. Mine is actually the semi modular silver rated one - the XXX edition - so should be better? Can I link to American hardware sites? Only site I can find that still lists it properly is an 'eggy' one. (end of line in UK I think, but I only bought it a year ago)
