As title, had a slight impulse buy today. Been pondering over buying 2x GTX780's for a while (upgrade itch) but saw the inno3D 780Ti versions on here today for the psychologically important sub £500 price point (£499.99 to be precise) and pulled the trigger on 2
Now, a couple of things...
1. I like to game at max settings, and tweaking and all that goes with it is part of the fun for me. I consider anything less than a locked 60fps minimum a fail when I'm gaming.
2. I currently game at 2560x1080 (21:9 super wide) so this is a fair bit more demanding than 1920x1080, but a fair bit lower than 2560x1440. A happy medium you might say. This monitor also overclocks to 75hz which I'd like to run at if I have the GPU power.
3. I currently have 2x GTX 670's in SLI that cope with most games ok, but my daft passion at the moment is skyrim, fully modded up with texture packs and ENB. My 670's in SLI are struggling quite a lot with this now to be honest.
4. My PSU is an XFX pro 750 watt. XFX are basically a rebadged seasonic I believe so it's a good solid PSU.
I know that's cutting it fine with the PSU (looking around the web there are many people who say 780ti SLI will be fine with 750-800 watt, many who say it won't). I won't be overclocking the 780's, but my CPU, an i72600k, is and will be overclocked at 4.6.
I've seen other posts on here with similar 780ti SLI systems and beefier CPU's than mine saying their systems peak at about 650 watts. I've also used an online power calculator and that came back at about 650 watts estimated total system usage for all my components ***EDIT*** - this includes setting my cpu at a 4.6 overclock and the volts at 1.3
So...
- Any more opinions on the PSU front? I'd rather not upgrade that if I don't have to.
- Do you think I might get away with just one 780ti for my current needs? Will that extra 1GB ram and the 200 odd extra stream processors make the difference I need for Skyrim, for example?
One thing that might sway it is, the new larger super wides (3440 x 1440) are a definite possible future upgrade for me monitor wise in the future, and SLI anything will be a must for them.
So buy 2 780Ti's now to be prepared, or buy one now (return the other) and buy another down the line if I upgrade my monitor?
Or, send them both back, smack myself around the head a bit, and wait for maxwell?
