MSI 290 GE or 780 Gigabyte windforce?

I've had both cards and settled on the 290 because my monitor wouldn't work with the 780 in 3D.

They are literally the same speed, except when Mantle picks up then 290 will obviously be faster in some games.

The 780 definitely ran cooler, they are about the same level of noise.

It all comes down to what you want.

Nvidia - Shadowplay, Physx, Gsync (Will possibly get Mantle at some point)

AMD - Freesync, TruAudio, Mining, Mantle etc (will get shadowplay equivalent through radeonpro)

Basically just go for whatever suits your fancy in regards to the features they come with.

Well tbh, bf4 is still pretty much in alpha state nevermind mantle. Might actually have been better to add it onto bf3. It's finally playable after over 2 years.

I was asked to test GPU usage the other evening. I fired it up and started on a 64 man Siege of Shanghai server and within 2 minutes, I just wanted to turn it off. I hate the damned game now and I have premium

Yeah tell me about it Greg, I played with a small group of mates (all excited about the hype) then when we played only one guy could run it stable. I even went back to stock on everything and the same crashes happened, then compared to the other lads and we all had mixed bag of hardware experiencing the same issues.

This proved it was just broken so I have not played it till I see the mantle stuff is working right, in the mean time I have been mining which took out the 7990 so am waiting for the RMA. Been a disappointing Dec/Jan so hoping it will get better.

Same. I bought the whole package, premium etc and I can't last more than a few minutes before I get bored ****less and frustrated.

I get a full shot on him, he takes it full in the face and jumps over the bridge like I had thrown a wet toilet roll at him. Then the tank took a couple of hits, so I jump out and start running into C and that lovely snap sound as I get bombed by snipers and dead.... Arghhhhhhhhhhh

If you want quiet the 780 + WF3 cooler is the better bet - and handles BF4 on ultra at 1920x1080 no hassle. (If quiet is a really big deal for you then the WF3 cooler has enough headroom you can practically all but turn the fan off with the 780 while keeping temps under 80C).

I think both cards are great for temps and noise really. But if anything the windforce 3 shifts more air when you ramp it up to intolerable levels.

Pick whichever you like, both are about the same. If recording and streaming is of interest Nvidia does have Shadow Play.(radeon pro has no eta)

Hard choices but i am edging towards a 780 at the moment, partially due to bad experience with amd drivers , im just wondering if its worth paying an extra £40 for the gigahead edition or the evga acx cooler. also would i need to replace the thermal paste on any of these

Well guys today i went ahead and ordered the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 WindForce 3x OC. should be here tommorow. bf4 runs pretty decent on the 480 im currently using which is good for a 4 year old card so the 780 should be a beast and couldnt justify paying an extra £40 for a backplate and 50mhz so went for this instead.
