*** The Official Dark Souls II Thread ***

Not to mention it's co-written by members of the community such as EpicNameBro and A German Spy. It'll be great to support their work on it.
I didn't know that. Epic has such amazing knowledge of the game, happy to support their work, though I hope an update doesn't render some of the info like it did in the first game.

He's even said Dark Souls 2 is better than both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. Hype level is so high right now, it'll only be brought down by an announcement that the PC version isn't coming out in March *fingers crossed*.

I've pretty much stayed away from all DS2 info so far, as I want to experience everything fresh myself. If I get the guide I'll have to hide it until I've finished my first playthrough!

Same, as much as I've wanted to watch videos of the beta or impressions videos from Vaatividya I've stopped myself. Just ordered the hardback guide (17.99 from GAME) but like you I'll only read it after getting past those parts in game. Will be horrible having the guide but not the game if the PC version is delayed :(.

I've also been avoiding reading up about the game as I too want the experience to be fresh, but then I do this with most games. I'm really quite surprised that this thread isn't bigger as Dark Souls has been many people's favorite game of the last gen, including mine. Is it just the difficulty of the game that puts people off do you think?

If I'm honest, the difficulty in Dark Souls was an issue for me at first, until I realised it wasn't Skyrim meaning I actually had to think about what I was doing. Having learned how to play the game I found that it's the difficulty that's made it so good. Having said that, I think I might have to invest in the guide for DS2 as it helped to a degree in DS1, but the book itself was lovely.

Same here ordered the guide and black armour ps3 game for now as no date for pc and a few rumours are hinting at may, i cant link but i saw it a few times over the weekend. Namco seem to dodge any pc related question on twitter too

Hopefully game actually have allocated stock for the guide and this version of the game, as everywhere else seems to not be offering the black armour version anymore

Going to finish up my pc playthrough this week and maybe retry demon souls! I imported it at US release and got quite far but stopped playing for something else and didnt go back!

Dark souls has been amazing so im hoping i will enjoy demons similarly :) wonder if i can finish it in time for ds2

Only just over a month away now!!!
Really does look impressive and they seemed to have ironed out some of the issues of the previous games.
I still preferred Demon's Souls over Dark Souls but both of them are my number 1 and 2 games of the PS3 era. I suspect Dark Souls 2 will go in at number 1 to finish the generation off.

One thing that really helped my appreciate was Vaatividya's Youtube Lore videos as like most others I really didn't realise how in depth the world and the story was. I love how the player has to find this all out and it makes the whole experience your own.

You get out of these games what YOU put into them. It's exceptional game design and mechanics in a time when game design is typically really bad. Most developers don't know how to get the balance between difficulty, reward, story, action, suspense, strategy, exploration etc all into 1 package and the Souls series IMO is by far the best example of this.

There is the very occassional cheap death but 99% of your deaths are your own fault.
I mean I ran through Demon's Souls 6 months ago again into NG+++++ and didn't die once from an enemy, just the odd silly fall. The first playthrough though I died 50 times on the 1st level. Mastering the game is so rewarding and fun and I think Dark Souls 2 will be the hardest one yet to fully master

Great post and i agree i prefer the hidden lore of these games, you pick it up by exploring and talking to npcs and reading item descriptions which is really unique

I listened to bonfire side chats podcast, they played through it an area per podcast discussing lore and more indepth aspects

They then went back and did iy for demon souls too :)

Yeah I find the entire game to be designed in a way that you really can have the experience you want to have.

To be able to make a game where I feel like I'm having my own personal experience, while still having a fun and interesting core game is not an easy thing to do. Most developers just settle for here is the experience we want you to have and we'll force you to have it in a certain time frame. That's fine in some cases, but Souls is one of the few games that really give me the true 'gamers' experience as I like to think of it - the main reaosn I play games!

And its a great game/series to discuss with each other as everyone has a different experiance!

I just started the dark souls dlc and wondering around it hit me that i was in dark root in the past! Walking around what becomes the hydra lake and looking off a cliff to see anor londo just gave me chills for some reason

:)

Exactly! It's a great talking point on top of everything else.

You have just reminded me that I haven't played that yet. I have the prepare to die edition but I bought it just before a crazy few months where I had OU exams, got married, went on honeymoon, moved house and moved someone out of another house into the one I moved out of etc. Basically I completely forgot I had bought it until you just posted this!! lol

Guess what I'm now doing over the next few weeks.

Still yet to see the DLC

Luckily i was replaying anyway but you cant access the dlc area until you have the lord vessel and can access dukes archives! Very obscure i had to ask on here and watch a quick video!

Heres how to reach it

you have to kill the first crystal golem in dukes to recieve a pendant, then you go to the hydra lake and behind the hydra you save Dusk, there is then a portal there! I dont know if you have to save dusk prior to getting the pendant or not, may be worth looking up

Also the dlc so far seems really lore heavy :)

Re: accessing the DLC

No, you don't need to save Dusk prior to getting the Pendant. When you've saved Dusk from the Golden Golem, just quit and reload your game, and the portal will appear

Incidentally, I love the DLC. It's a very good challenge and if you are a magic user, there are easily the most powerful spells there which you can use to one-shot even the toughest of bosses and enemies. They can almost make the game too easy at times!

Thanks for clearing that up ;)

Oh no i think i killed an important npc right at the start of the area :/

Not on purpose, i thought it was an enemy :(

A big mushroom by any chance? If so, not to worry, she's not really that important. She only sells a few items that aren't really that needed, so just carry on going :)

Yay :) i thought it was like the mushrooms from just before ash lake :)

Sorcery is pretty powerful :) may try it in demons when i finish up here

Good point about the DLC. Got a busy couple of weeks ahead so probably won't have time to reach that point before Dark Souls 2. Maybe I'll just keep hold of the prepare to die edition until later and play through it again. I have no save data on it as changed accounts so would be a full restart.

Have to stop changing accounts. I platinumed Demon's Souls twice then changed accounts again and got to 98% but couldn't be bothered to farm last item then forgot to back my data up! lol.
Not that I'm fussed about trophies, just like to do everything possible in a game I really like (not many of them)
