GS5 to launch in January

Yet another teaser from Samsung:

Outdoor sounds like they may go some way to making it waterproof possibly, but as much as I like Samsung hardware as a few have already said I don't want KNOX anywhere near my phone.

720p to 1080p was a noticeable difference! :) 1080 to NUMBERGAMEp will not change nothing from users point of view..

There well still be a difference, it just that the cost of power might outweigth the benefit from going higher. 1080p RGB would be nice from Samsung this year, things like the Note3 have already fixed the brightness and it is pretty awesome now, not much else I would want from the screen.

Yup the Note 3 can be too dark (good for bedside reading) or too damn bright. Both extremes are welcome :)

i hope this one feels 'snappy'. All the galaxy phones I've tried seem to have a bit of a lag when you press an app button before it starts up. Something you don't notice on iphones and even much less on the Lumia 1020.

Not sure why this happens with the SGs

Have you used a Note 3? It /is/ iPhone smooth at loading/apps, animations and so on.

No one here wants a 2560 screen - it's pointless and only a marketing tool.

Biggest upgrade will be a better design HW + SW, battery life and camera.

2560x1440 won't be pointless with regards to pentile displays, it should just be enough to completely eliminate the cross hatching patterns.

In my opinion in terms of diminishing returns... nearly doubling the pixel count just to eliminate the tiny bit of cross hatching (only noticeable when your nose up against the screen) is a waste of resources from the processor and battery pool. It's not even noticeable on the Note 3's lower PPI.

It should be RGB or just stay as it is IMO.

How about bezel-free and possibly fingerprint scanner:

The naff S5 concept pics don't help :p

Was it noticeable on the S4's 1080p panel though? I certainly never noticed it, but I'm curious if others have.

It's noticeable on the S4's panel, not hugely of course, but it was there. It's more the increase in black space than the lack of sub pixels that is the most noticeable aspect.

I agree RGB would be great, but the traditional RGB rather than the RGB they used for the Note 2.

I'm not hugely fussed by it of course, I managed fine with the original Note N7000.

However I don't see an issue with them developing screens with a higher PPI despite them not being strictly necessary with regards to phone displays, as it's all about technological progress, this is where the sort of screens that end up in future versions of Occulus Rifts start out.

Which means 3840x2160 at 7" is quite viable if 5" 2560x1440 screens are already being produced.

What I really want a a new and awesome design, the S4 was a bit boring for me, the Note3 is better but it still a bit safe. The Icons in the event leak look very promising from a software side.
