Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [7th - 12th February 2014]

How do people know if Hazard went because chelsea were CL winners/paying him the most/paid his agent the most/gets to work under Di Matteo?

I don't have any links but it was published what Hazard's agent got out of the deal and it was astronomical. He also delayed his decision of who he was joining till after the CL iirc.

So he wanted to go to CL winners?

I doubt hazards agent decided where he went

I'm sure that CL football was a requirement however having Chelsea in a bidding war with other clubs was only going to push his price up and allow Hazard and his agent to make more money.

I would think he was told that Chelsea wanted to sign him and he waited till he knew they were in the CL before making any decision.

come back when you actually know something rather than just guessing

Its HIGHLY unlikley that all the players who arrive on brand new contracts will be on the same wages that the likes of Vidic and Evra and Rio have been getting after 6 - 10 years at the club.

Of course there will be high profile players who may or may not sign in the summer, but there may well also be those high profile youngsters who need to show they deserve to play for Utd and deserve the pay that goes with that high profile attention etc and so wont be on as high weekly /annual wages.

Wages are below 60% of revenue , and thats before the huge increases in TV deals, shirt sponsorship / kit deals which will kick in within 18 months.

From today

Well no doubt u can afford players but lets say the player has 3 options and both the other teams are in the CL and United are not it makes it very hard to sign top players then.

Secondly who realistically wants to play for David Moyes? I mean Man United is losing a lot of it's appeal i think sacking Moyes first would be more important than bringing in players imo.

It also depends on the quality of players already at the other clubs in question.

No disrespect to Chelsea in the slightest, but IF Utd and Chelsea go for a midfielder in the summer and x player wants to play every week, which do you think he would choose if everything else is the same ( minus CL football)

There is a lot of other considerations other than just CL football

Chelsea have beaten off competition from Manchester City — who had been clear favourites to sign the exciting Belgium international but grew frustrated at the negotiations — Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur after becoming the only club who would go close to meeting the forward’s demands.

City are thought to have walked away from the deal last week with Spurs giving up some time ago. Hazard, currently on international duty and preparing to face England in a friendly this weekend, indicated to Chelsea on Saturday that he was set to accept their offer and yesterday took to the social media site Twitter to announce that he had “made up my mind”, adding last night: “I’m signing for the Champions League winner.”

Chelsea will pay a fee of around €40 million (£35.3 million) to Lille, with Hazard having demanded wages of £4.6 million a year net of tax, so around £9  million a year for his new employer. That averages out at £170,000 a week.

In addition his agent, John Bico, who has conducted an aggressive auction has made it clear that he wants a fee of £6 million.

This was all at the time that City were complaining about agents taking the **** with regards to payments for players they were looking at.

I love how you accuse DM of guessing while at the same time guessing how much any possible new signings will be earning.

You have no idea who Utd will sign let alone how much they'll earn. That said, if Utd go after high profile players they'll be paying top end wages. Not only that, there will be a natural rise in wages for other players that will wipe out any savings on Vidic, Evra etc.

You only have to look at the link you provided to see, wages rose 16.7% from last year and you only made 1 meaningful signing.

Yh I think if we hadn't won then he would have gone to City/United in all honesty but like others have said who knows as it's all hyperbole anyway....worth every penny though :)

Shows more about their desperation at the moment than his passion. Celebrating a goal against the bottom of the table club like that was almost cringeworthy. IMO of course.

Have to say Moyes and Rooney celebrations were so ott, it was a deflected goal as well down to luck and u could have sworn they scored a last minute winner in a CL knock-out tie.

For some reason i dont really know how to call the game tonight, will it be the usual Arsenal bottlers tonight?

My word, a team struggling for results and playing nigh on 80 minutes coming back from a goal down are getting slated for celebrating?

GTFO :D

Some ****ing idiots in here :D
