Replacement suggestions for the Boxster S

Yeah, but you keep saying you can't afford x or y so you've not actually got any options - it appears - than to save and get something you do want.

It's not a case of not being able to afford x or y. It's a case of not wanting to spend anymore money.

1) I want to change cars
2) My current car has enough value to pay for a replacement
3) I'm not as into cars as I once was and would prefer to spend my money elsewhere

It's crazy to say I have no options when I have £11k-£13k on spend a car when you keep in mind that I don't really care about the running costs. I have no interest in spending more money on a car currently.

I would have thought 10K nets you a good 6 series?

Not my field of expertise in honesty.

I understand the whole want to change car not for money saving but for a change. As I have done so before in the past.

A 630i is in budget but a bit too slow, I want a manual as well which makes it much harder to find in a larger GT sized car like the 6.

i'm going to sell my car soon, it may suit your needs....

What is it?

I do understand, it just seems to me that anything thrown at you comes back with the response that it's not in budget, so you don't want it. Like the 630i/650i you've just mentioned. :p

The 6 is going to be a hard one as there are not many manual examples. 16 for sale in the UK if you select petrol and no budget on AT.

A 335i or 135i looks easier to find, although I do prefer the looks of the 6.

You aren't making much sense really. You say you want a manual gearbox fun car blah blah but then you say you aren't interested in cars anymore, and would rather spend money elsewhere in life... but you still want to spend £13k on a car. Wiiiiiiiierd.

Why not just sell the car, pocket the cash for something nice in life, and invest in a bit of bangernomics, Like an e38 7 series or something so when you actually drive you do so in comfort.

Or an e39 M5...manual, v8. what's not to love?

As previously explained I want to change my car, I don't enjoy the current car anymore.

and you seriously think you will enjoy a Mondeo more??

This is the point everyone is trying to get at. You say you don't enjoy your current car but quite frankly you simply aren't going to enjoy a Mondeo more and i'm not sure whether you would even enjoy a 3 series more.

If you wanted and needed something more practical then that is understandable but the main reason people drive saloons and hatchbacks is so they have practicality.

If you just don't care about cars much anymore then just spend about 8k, get a decent hatchback with not much power for low running costs.

If you don't have to worry about practicality, running costs e.t.c then you buy a sports car...and you already have the best one of those in your price range.

If you go from a Boxter S to a 130i then I think I'll actually cry. Just get a mustang, at least it's different and more interesting than some boring hatchback.

You like them, they're in budget, they're different to the Boxter, shouldn't cost any more to run. Can't see why you'd consider a hatchback/saloon when you don't need something practical.

AF quoted £575.00 for the Mustang after talking them through a few bits and putting my age as 25 - something to consider.

Not sure many fall into my budget though of £11k-£13k for a decent 2005 onwards manual GT (V8).

Doesn't Avant = estate? I don't want an estate but would consider a saloon if they make them for the above cars?

I don't think the RS4 B5 came in saloon form. The later RS4 B7 came in saloon form. The RS6 C5 came in saloon form. Like this one just as an example. Though you can get higher mileage examples for much less. Personally, the whole reason I would go with the B5 RS4 and C5 RS6, is specifically because they can be had in estate versions. I just prefer the estates.

If I was going for saloon I would go with a D3 S8 which has the first generation 5 litre V10 from the Gallardo bored out to 5.2 litre.

I'll swap my S2000 for your boxster...

If you have hair and are under 25 you should be driving a car with no roof.

I'm also struggling to think of anything that fits your requirements. I'm having similar thoughts, although I've come to the conclusion that I'll just have to spend more money to get something better than my current car (TVR T350 is my current mad idea). Your requirement of keeping the budget the same is really tricky. The points that I've picked up from this thread which I think are worthwhile:

If you want a mustang, get a mustang. Shop harder for insurance.
Maserati 4200 and quattroporte both in budget if you want awesome rare v8s.
BMW 335i - sensible but nowhere near as great a drive as your current car.
S2000 - chop yours in and save a bunch of cash, but insuring that in the leafy Surrey ghetto that you live in might cost you the savings on purchase price.

My suggestion would be a TVR Chimera or a lotus Elise.

There are 2 630i with manual boxes in budget on PH, and one that you may be haggle almost into budget.

11 manual 6-series under 13k on Autotrader, then there's the pistonheads ones too... They're not a common car by any means but not too hard to find one under budget :)

Would have to be a bigger engine than the 630i. It's 50bhp down on my current car and a hell of a lot heavier!

:D I saw that a few days ago, there seems to be a real lack of S197's available at the moment. I'm half wondering why it hasn't sold already considering it looks like fairly decent example.

Maserati - YES, but see below.
Jap stuff doesn't do it for me at all, I know they are the best way to get bonkers bhp but they do nothing for me.
Old Capri just isn't me either, I have no interest in the age or style of the car and to me it's the same as any old 25 year old Ford.

Will have a look, the RS6 looks nice but it's not a manual. I've no need for an estate and although I appreciate the RS estates look amazing I just wouldn't use the space.

Would love a Maserati. They are probably up there as the most desirable car in the world for me bar the Mustang. Style, class, power, that sound, comfort etc.... but sadly I don't think a decent one comes in budget.

S2000 is a no, I need a large power engine with far too much torque. 335i with a remap is up there, the auto I drove bored me to death but I hope the manual is better.

You could have the lower end of 4200's or what look like excellent 3200's for your money. I'm tempted apart from the heinous repair and servicing costs!

I know you say automatics bore you, but what about a C32/C55/CLK55 AMG?

350+ bhp and enough torque to power the Earth.
Sure it's an auto, but perhaps go and test one and see what you think?

I've massively disliked every auto I've ever driven (quite a few now, mostly as loan cars so I've been able to drive them properly) and really enjoy the use of a manual, at the moment I don't see that changing so I'll only be considering manuals. I wouldn't even consider an automatic Mustang.
