I've just heard on the radio that flooded businesses will now be getting tax breaks. What about the northern businesses from recent years that were affected?! Seemingly no one gave a toss back then, but when a southerner's rug gets moldy... different story.

17'000 properties were flooded in Hull in 2007 and they hardly got a mention on the news at the time.

was pretty windy coming out of the gym this evening in cambridgeshire
just glad to live in the central-east and not on a flood plain!

alconbury brook is pretty high tho!

Wind in North Wales was the strongest I've ever seen. Watched a foot long slate roof tile get carried easily 30-40m through the air towards me, hit the bottom corner of the window I was standing at which somehow didn't smash. If it had been much higher up don't think I'd have been so lucky! It looked like a piece of cardboard the way it flew. Then walking to the bus stop later on with 5 or so other people, we all turned a corner into the wind which near knocked us all off our feet. Had to walk a massive detour because it was impossible to go forward. Fun day.

there's been lots of talk about building houses on 'flood plains' but surely everything is flood plain depending on how high the water level gets.

Went out to my car this morning to find a massive log about 2 feet away from it in pieces, presumably fell from a nearby tree.

Thank god, that could have been much worse!

Behind my garden is a field, which is a flood plain to a stream/river it's got. The field has been muddy, and i can see a large puddle, but that's it thankfully.

Apparently late last night one of the villages to the west of me had a ~5foot wall of water sweep through the main street and a few minutes later completely gone, no one knows where it came from or where it went heh. Left the road in a bit of a mess but fortunatly was gone before it started getting into peoples houses.
