Minor annoyance with BBC website - Football scores/results spoiled!

I definitely find the way in which the news readers / radio presenters "lead" stories, to be the biggest annoyance.

Instead of saying "In the F1......" they simply start with "Sebastian Vettel won....." and continue on to the results of the race. I've been caught out a few times, because they've been talking about the weather/politics/celebrities and BOOM!

Even the fastest fingers cannot mute the radio that quick. If you do succeed in muting within 0.3 seconds, you've still heard the first name of the race winner, or you at least know something happens to that driver etc.

You go on a news site and dont expect the news site to be reporting news?

If you want to avoid football results why on earth would you be looking at news sites?

Edit: thinking this through my head....BBC news on TV tell you before the results come up.....you have a slight point >_>

Not really, they tell you that because the games are about to come on tv, they are not on the bbc website.

Just stay away from anywhere with news for the few hours it is between games, thats what I do if i dont want to see the results, its not that hard.

Worst EVER spoiler I ever had was leading up to Terminator 2 being released. I literally made sure I knew NOTHING about it. The day I was going to see it, on the way to work, I turned on the radio, and the first and only words I heard before I could scramble to turn it off was, "...and this time Arni is the good guy!"

O!M!G! I was annoyed :(

Do people still do this (avoid match results then watch MOTD as if they're watching a live game?)

The only group smaller than those who heed the "look away now" warning is those affected by 'flash photography'

Hmmm... You seem to be relishing your sarcasm more than your point?

You're telling me you don't watch a Grand Prix later on in the day, prefering not knowing the outcome?

Well I don't watch F1 (I prefer real sports, not ones based on who has the best technology/money to throw around) :D

But no, I'd rather follow the event live (even it that be via radio ro the BBC website) than pretend I'm watching it live when in reality only watching pre-recorded highlights later.

Not related to Football as I have no interest in it but I sub to NHL Gamecenter Live and they let you turn 'scores off' on their site so you never see them. Great...but...

When you watch the first game highlights, the channel that broadcast it displays all the scores at the bottom of the screen!! I would much prefer to watch them on my PS3 or PS4 via the App but instead I have to go on a PC, minimise the window to drag it down to the bottom slightly which puts the scores off the screen.

Also, when watching a full replay of the game, it shows a blue line for a shot on goal anda red line as a goal at the bottom. So if my team are down 2-0 with 30 minutes left and I pause the replay, it instantly shows me that there are no more red lines so I know it'll end 2-0. Have to pause it with my eyes closed then keep them closed for 10 seconds after starting again until it goes away.

They don't think these things through fully

Not sport related but equally annoying, I went on the awful itv player a few years ago to watch the xfactor results night and the thumbnail in the video said along the lines of this " **** voted out"

So kinda made it pointless watching now you know who got voted off, of course I complained about it and haven't seen them do it since.

Well, I don't do this strange "pretend I'm watching it live" thing you keep mentioning?

I (& suspect lots of people) simply want to watch a match (or sporting event) without knowing the outcome. Quite simple really. Like watching a film or program without knowing the ending isn't it.

Hah, small world. There are none on my "Feed" right now, it's normally when one of those "<Thing> in pictures" makes its way onto the App, the text will say "We go over <Thing's> pictures from the last x years", then there's just a blank space underneath where I imagine the multimedia entry should be?

I will happily forward any future ones onto you :p

Ah, so this is an app issue, that is understandable. The app is not as capable as the website, I don't work in the app team :)

Well, if you work on the website, stop them spoiling match (sport) results on the main page please!

If you want to find out a sports result go to the sports page, but to have a race or match (etc) spoiled on the main page is a pain (for me at least) and happens numerous times a week! To the extent I'm now skipping the main page to go straight to the news page

THIS. Keep sport on the sports pages only. Not on the main pages, or at least make it so you have to click to reveal the score (if highlights are being shown later).

BBC was always especially bad for Asian F1 races where a full re-run of the race would be shown in the afternoon.

My last comment on the matter, as I think the point's been made - http://www.bbc.co.uk/

FIVE football match scores on the MAIN page, spoiling it for anyone planning on watching Match of the Day - One of which is a major headling guaranteed to catch your eye too!

Daft!

Anyway, all my shortcuts now skip the main page because of this daftness.

As an aside, where did the BBC website on which you could change the layout go? I much preferred that to the current one :(

Came and went...

But as someone pointed out on the previous page it may return if you look at the beta presentation - http://www.bbc.co.uk?view=beta

With an account you can pick and choose your layout, although it doesn't seem quite as nice as the current on IMHO. Too little information and too much space wasted.

Just to correct your link, it only works for /news.

The homepage custom layout went a couple of years ago, not only did very few people use it, the thing they did change was usually down to localised content. If you set your location now, it shows you local news and weather, so the page is tailored for you, which is what people seem to like.

Yep at the moment the home page is showing football scores and boxing results. Ridiculous. there's no need for the BBC to show this on there main homepage. It's not like Sky where they want people to click through and click or view ads.

Keep final scores off the homepage it's not difficult.

The link that is posted above in the thread is a mobile site. So isn't great for desktop users, and as mentioned it only works on the news site.

Everytime I go to www.bbc.co.uk or www.bbc.co.uk/news now it's in beta mode :(

How do I get out of it?

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, BUT...

So on the BBC homepage this evening (which I accidentally visited) - there in the NEWS section is the Wigan & Man.City result. Not even in the sports or football section, but in the news section!

Does my head in!

And even if I did my usual trick of going straight to the news page, to skip the main/home page just for this very reason, they even put the result on thaty page to. Thanks BBC! Nice move!

PUT SPORTS RESULTS ON THE SPORTS PAGE!!!
