eSRAM the reason Xbox One struggles with 1080p?

What I love about these type of discussions, be it about mobile phones, games consoles or what ever, is when you have one that is significantly behind the other in terms of performance on release, its always argued that the weaker one will always "get better" and "get closer" to the more powerful one.

But nobody ever argues that the same problems the lower performing thing might have, new architecture, immature drivers, technical issues etc, might also be affecting the more powerful thing.

It really doesn't matter what happens with Xbone, with its drivers, with how they use its esram or what ever, it physically cannot push as many polygons as a PS4 with its hardware.
It will ALWAYS be at a disadvantage to the PS4, any advances made with the Xbone will be countered by advances made on the PS4, there will be no circumstance where the Xbone can be brought to a level where it matches or out performs the PS4 because it cannot physically do it with its current hardware.

So i dont know why we end up having these round and round threads.

What I love is people who cant read a few pages back, it was talked about and concluded we all know it will be the same improvements in the PS4.

Because people can't come to terms with it, and think that they have to have "the best" regardless.

Or people trying to make amends for the complete bias the media showed last year regarding the multi platform comparisons. Sabotaging footage, providing patches the last minute to increase resolution conveniently AFTER the reviews were in.

Playing it down and I bet there are a lot of people out there who feel they have been short changed, paying more for a less adequate system and were none the wiser back then.

Tbh you only have yourself to blame if you feel short changed for buying the less powerful console. If you care about specs you should check before hand, if you don't and wanted the XB1 for exclusives or other reasons then that's fine.

The trouble with Xbox One is that developers are struggling to even reach their targets and are having to sacrifice resolution (AC4/BF4 etc), framerate (Tomb Raider) or visual effects (Forza 5).

Yup, it really is very underwhelming for 'next gen' hardware. I hope Microsoft do a refresh in 2-3 years, with a console that can play the same games based on X86 arch, but can utilize nicer effects, higher res and AA. So the new refresh console could co-exist with the Xbone, Maybe the Xbone could see a nice price cut, and truly occupy the all n one media box market position. While a much more powerful gaming only orientated hardware console could be brought to market to co-exist. There is no way the current Xbone is worth £425. Tis ridiculous, considering how much more powerful the PS4 is.

I don't think a refresh of hardware is viable as that would put the 1st gen users of the console at a disadvantage and cause an uproar. I'd imagine it would also cause issues for developers.

Silly thread is silly...

Blatently nicked from MOOGLEYS in GD - <Giggle, ducks and runs....> :D

This list always makes me laugh. The PS4, Wii U and XBO columns show pretty much only AAA titles, whereas 70-80% of the PC list is indie.

Next gen doesn't really mean or have anything to do with power though, so it's useless using it in that context.

It's about whether the game is good or not, AAA means very little nowadays, it's not the indicator of quality it used to be, quite the opposite of late in fact.

Yes but that list depicts quantity, not quality. Indie games are extremely easy to churn out quickly on PC, and no doubt later in the life of the next gen consoles as well. The list means nothing.

it would never happen, they would need to replace all consoles currently sold with new ones for free and then take back all the unsold ones and dismantle them all.

either that or give away a boatload of games to people who own the inferior one.

both those scenarios i could never see happening tbh, people would be more furious than they are now.

edit:

on another note sony's tv division is on the up and up, it looks like they are getting their act together and doing quite well, their new range of tv's are launching soon and should be the best tv's you can get for the money this year and especially so for gaming.

ideally though they should be running each division as a separate entity so they know what is viable and what isn't.

The best they(MS) can do now is offer a 'Gamer' package, strip Kinect out of the bundle & chuck in 2 controllers for the same price as a PS4 (£350).

Keep the £430 SKU & market is as the 'complete' entertainment package.

Regardless of the difference in the GPU & Memory, I guarantee they'd shift a lot faster!

I thought they were selling off their TV business?
It's a shame becuase I just bought my first ever Sony TV (KDL32W654) and it's pretty awesome.

XB1 is the best for me, regardless of it's power. And I am sure I am not alone in that so it seems people need to come to terms with that rather than the other way round.

Nobody has disagreed with that though, everyone has said choose the console best for you.

So I don't think it is the other way round, we don't have anything to come to terms with :p

Well we don't need to be told over and over the PS4 has the more power, or how we should feel bad about it.....

It's obvious that we're not talking about, we're talking about the people who keep insisting that the Xbox One will "catch up".

Well we don't need to be told over and over the PS4 has the more power, or how we should feel bad about it.....

If you're not claiming that it will catch up, then you won't be getting told over and over that it has more power, and I don't think anyone has suggested you should feel bad about it.

It's like what I said before about a 3DS and PSVita, I have a 3DS to play the likes of Zelda and Mario, that's the only choice available for playing the latest portable Zelda and Mario (and other Nintendo first party games), so the performance relative to the PSVita just isn't relevant.

I had years as a PS3 owner basically being told I was a complete idiot for owning a machine that was generally a few fps or lines of resolution behind the competition.

You better get used to it.

Just give it a rest will you, no one is now arguing about its lack of power, they are now talking about if or its ability to catch up to Sony via SDK updates etc and making better use of the eSRAM.

Which as has been discussed in great length in this very thread seems unlikely.

It reminds me of the Ps3 vs 360 when the Ps3 was being slated for being more expensive and offering games that tear like heck, smudged textures, less performance and in some cases lower resolutions. It took developers years to come to gripes with the Ps3 architecture, the CELL was actually quite capable, just a nightmare for developers to work with.

most developers finally got games running at parity and some went further, naughty dog for one. But, the 360 was always the better platform for nearly all multi plats for a considerable time, so if history is to repeat, Ps4 is the one to buy this time around, I think its you that needs to come to terms with it, you seem to post quite a few comments like you've just made.
