Is OcUK banned at your workplace?

That's really draconian

And having harmless old Overclockers blocked outright isn't? Some people in this thread must be working at companies run by dictators if you think our policy is draconian.

An hour per day using school time is perfectly fair. No-one needs to browse Facebook/Twitter or check their personal emails for more than that during the school day. We also have a staggered timetable for lower and upper year groups, so a single member of staff is only going to have two 30-minute breaks per day (out of four) which is plenty of time to squeeze all that stuff in.

Besides, it isn't the quota people moan about; it's the fact they don't realise they can temporarily unblock themselves. I've yet to have a call from someone who I've already educated. People need to pay attention to the emails my department sends out as we covered our filtering policy months ago.

Anyway, I work in a school (well duh). I'd rather not get into all the child protection and e-safety issues with regards to allowing free access to social networking.

:D, I once managed highest usage out of a company of 25,000+... seems nobody else was streaming music all day at work (random playlists) - all video streaming is blocked so no ones usage is that high.

Oddly this forum isn't flagged as a forum or community at my place of work, otherwise it would be blocked.

I used to be a high internet user but that was only becaues I was bored and had nothing to do. Now I check the forums maybe 3 times a day on average, facebook, hotukdeals and a couple of other sites like bbc.

The rest of the time I am too busy either with my current job or training / learning

Our work computers have no internet access at all apart from the retail system and a couple of sites we order stuff from. So my phone gets a hammering instead :)

Fully unblocked internet at work which is nice. I never go on OcUK though, I have programming to do which means I get in, look up and it's home time :D

I walk at lunches as well.

I work for the NHS and I can happily browse the forums and website.

Here in Stoke NHS we can't go anywhere we're not supposed to go.
They must also run some software to see peoples browsing habits and for example I once went on the GAK site for around 2 minutes and about a week later it was restricted. The only News site we can access is Stoke Sentinel which is useless.

Ah, a high school, so yeah fair enough. Your original post saying "students" probably made people think you meant university students!

So staff are trusted with the lives of patients but not use of the internet facilities? Sounds like someone's got their priorities wrong!

At my place we're not restricted other than porn. Everything is open and we're treated like adults. Usage is however monitored, if you start to take the proverbial, you're disciplined.

This.

Sometimes I even spend time queueing up fap material so it's ready for when I get home.
