Cyclist Assaults Lorry Driver

A "bunch of"? There's only one cyclist involved in this incident .

+1.

Only when you ride a bike on the road can you truly see the danger of motorists and where the driving test fails. There are always idiot cyclists but the majority want to get from A to B safely. Education seems impossible to some.

Like i said before, many more idiot cyclists than idiot motor vehicle drivers!

And it is really assumptive to suggest he got out to have a go after he had already gestured to the cyclist to slow down and not try to pass. I have been on the receiving end of all kinds of insults for trying to warn other road users of dangers ahead, I just shrug them off an laugh at their impending misfortune, I don't get out have a go and try and maim them.

There's no evidence that any of this was the case though. Just one persons statement. The HGV driver might have nearly crushed the cyclist, called him a **** and told him to get out of the way, the cyclist responds and then the HGV driver gets out with the intention to assault him. He gets whacked back then makes up a story so he appears to be the wronged party.

Cyclist may have been an aggressive Coward.

But the HGV driver was clearly aggressive.

The HGV driver may have been going to get his bat out of his cab.

No-one knows.

But it wouldn't have happened had the Driver stayed in his cab

The Police would know, they would have taken a look in the truckers cab I'd imagine.

Speaking as an HGV driver, many cyclists - although the minority in my experience - are automatically hostile towards us despite us truckers being well aware of what our vehicle could and would do to them yet the minority of cyclists seem oblivious by the lemming way they ride around us, especially IMO in London & Cambridge.

Ultimately though this is about an assault on a person, what each was driving is IMO irrelevant.

Some major parts of this story are missing and clearly mis-reported. Anyone who gets out their vehicle isn't doing so "to speak" to me. What utter garbage.

This story stinks of bull**** to me. Just another anti-cylist backlash imo.

Rubbish. I have gotten out of the car a few times in my 30 years of driving to have a word with another driver with no idea of assault etc.

Wouldn't your experience be down to motorists just being larger group though? Percentage wise - would you say, per 1000 cars vs 1000 bikes that you encounter - do idiot motor vehicle drivers still outgrow idiot cyclists?

Is is also something that one of the posters above comparing 9 vs 1,999 pedestrian deaths missed, if we were to compare it as percentage of vehicles involved in accidents killing or injuring pedestrians, rather than number, does it still stand to scrutiny?

Also, this whole "95% of cyclists have car driving license" phrase used. Can anyone provide source where this number comes from? I would say, especially on London roads, it's in reverse, at least 95% behave like they never rear Highway Code. But then again, breaking highway code is actively encouraged in London when even the Barclays Cycling Hire Scheme does not provide method of adhering or even display information about HC 59 to its users.

The only way I can cope with cycling is to remember that every motorist is a knob and are out to get me - seriously.
Today I've had 3 incidents :
1 x left hook and 2 x turning to their right in front of me when I'm riding at around 28 mph.
I'm used to it now and don't get angry however 6 months ago if it was particularly bad I would chase after them and let them know what they had done but I had a close one with a motorist following me and actually mounting the pavement to run me down so I changed my attitude towards motorists which is: I don't belong on the road and I have no rights.
I'm coping now.

I posted earlier that the only motorists who show care are women and older drivers but the majority of males are idiots.

Edited last bit :D

Edit what you want but you know this forum is full of threads about male drivers being idiots against other male drivers but when it's idiot male drivers against vulnerable cyclists, the cyclist doesn't stand a chance.

What about the idiot cyclists then. You saying there arent any?

I think they are mainly in London with cameras on their heads messing about with Audi drivers :D
I can honestly say that in 39 years of driving I've never come across a cyclist who thinks 'They own the road' or who has messed up my journey.
I've never had a problem with cyclists except for the idiots who don't use lights and wear all black but even then I've seen them.

Waw! You must be driving on different roads to everyone else then! :D

It might make a difference that as a cyclist I can put myself in their position when driving but it's rare I'll come across a cyclist (not a chav on a bike without lights etc) who's riding like an idiot. Driving in London is a different matter though and there seems to be plenty with a death wish, helmet cams (or the self selecting sample who use them) seem to make them worse too.

In my experience as a road cyclist, I'd argue that HGV drivers do tend to be more careful than car drivers as they are much more aware of the length and accelleration of their vehicle. They often overtake with more caution and take more space.

Unlike the Everest Glazings van that nearly swiped me this morning on my commute, revving like a maniac and trying to get in front of me before the oncoming car passed.

On a more serious note, which after reading 6 pages, I can't see that anyone has addressed...I hope the driver is ok!

Ok guys picture the scene.

Cyclists gives 2 fingers to HGV driver. HGV driver gets out to have a "word".
Come on...The HGV driver got out to give him a slap and got his ass handed to him.
That was why the cyclist slammed the door on his head as he got back in the cab...

Cyclist was clearly an aggressive coward who waited until the guys back was turned to injure him with a weapon.

I find it astonishing that you can condone this behaviour.
Hmm it reads to me as if youre being serious. He was clearly referring to the case where, when "that" audi passenger punched a cyclist, it was deemed by many as ok because the cyclist was being aggressive. Maybe you've just forgotten that.

Anyway, the story should read "idiot assaults someone", the fact that the idiot was a cyclist and the someone was a lorry driver is pretty much irrelevant.

So if a white man beat up a black man because he didn't like the colour of his skin then it would be an idiot assaulting somebody and race would be irrelevant?

Why because Cyclists are angels and never do anything wrong?

There is NO justification for violence of any description, let alone slamming a door on someone's head, knocking them unconscious and riding off.

ANY decent human being would have at least had alarm bells ringing when they knocked someone out and rang for an ambulance, the cyclist was clearly a violent coward whatever happened.
I haven't condoned what the cyclist did. I stand by my original post. You're completely deluded if you think the story is as simple as it has been reported.
