That I can believe, I often have this argument with people - such as my wife and mother-in-law - who also think going out in cold weather will magically mean you catch a cold.

That isn't as stupid as the others because cold air does increase the risk of catching a cold.
 
No i agree with him. People with that attitude, like his wife, are the reason we have super strains, taking them willynilly for any little thing.

That's vets prescribing big tubs of human ab to farmers for meat growth when the herd is "ill".

I cannot say how well conducted this survey is, but the sample size would not be the issue. Very few studies are based on the entire population; you take a sample size based upon the confidence level you wish to achieve. 2200 should give a reasonable degree of confidence.
