Evans halshaw

Ok to be clear about what I Want from a car:

Minimum of 2ltr engine
Something that really pulls along in any gear when you put your foot down
Looks nice
Tax isn't really an issue
Insurance isn't an issue either
Not something that's gonna throw up massive bills, hence why I wanted newer models
Only in black or white
3 or 5 doors is fine
Good fuel economy, I do 10k+ miles a year

Now where does that leave me :p

That's a fair and pretty accurate assumption :p

It's not black or white but it would be a heck of a lot cheaper than a £20k white A5 TDi :p

Peerzy has a point. At least his is something worth spending cash on

In fact buy my 330ci, you could crash it 5 times, replace and still not be any worse off

Its got 2 doors

Its got 230bhp

Its bright red

Its got a BMW badge

Its got a 3ltr engine

And its worth about 3p

A 140 TDI doesn't really move ingear when you put your foot down. It picks up its skirt a little but thinking there's anything other than a little bit of initial turbo urge is naive at best

What's with the 2 litre? Totally depends on the car

Anything can throw up massive bills, you just need to weigh up the risk

3 or 5 door isn't exactly narrowing things.

It leaves you with a choice of many, many cars.

Not looking at m3's and diesel Audi a4's

My astra was a 1.6 and it was slow, in 5th gear at 70, putting your foot down took ages.

I want 2.0 minimum unless its higher bhp

Do you think a 1.8 lotus Elise is slow? What about ( going the other direction) a corsa vxr with a 1.6(t)?

Using engine size as a discriminator is daft, power and weight matter more

Never driven a lotus, I've driven a vxr but want something faster lol

You think a diesel a4 is quicker than a vxr corsa?

The vauxhall is a fairly nasty little thing but one thing it isn't is slow

You're not getting this are you? The specific examples aren't the point, your apparent criteria isn't driving you down any specific road as it seems like what ultimately matters to you is that its shiny with a nice badge.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but drop the daft requirements and spend less on it

It's not slow, but not that fast either. Quick, perhaps. There's no real measure for agility though.

On topic, I heard EH do horrendous finance deals and rates are high. However, there is usually room for negotiation. Personally I'd shop around more before making any decision.

Its been a while since I drove one.

I finally wised up about my astra, the ride was horrible slow and clunky.

Reason I went for it was because I paid £1500 for it, and it had only done 4k miles in 4 years of ownership.

If it hadn't of come along, I'd have kept saving up and bought a more luxury car.

I just want something sporty, quick and good looking.

I'm going to spell this out for you one last time then give up

140,bhp TDI a4, couple of years old. Nice car. Lovely car in fact for spending all day on the motorway and costing not a lot in company car tax.

It is not sporty I.e it handles reasonably, not particularly well.

It is not quick... I.e its a diesel saloon car weighing 1.5t+ with 140bhp

It looks like thousands of other a4s on the road. ( I quite like them tbh, but its just the same as everything else you'll see day in day out)

Everything you like about this car is basically...the badge.

Buy one the same, a few years older, save money, be happy

Borrow nothing and buy a 350Z outright?

Providing of course you can actually afford the tax and insurance and do generally want something that is sporty and doesn't just look sporty.

Just to clarify an Audi A4 2.0l TDi might look sporty to you bit it's anything but sporty. My 1.4L Fiat has more bhp and is much lighter.

Ok forget the A4 then. :p

I have thought about the 350z, like them very much, have always been put off by the tax, unless I go pre 06 as its cheaper.

Decent models are going for around £7-8k for an 09 plate.

Hard finding one that hasn't got 60k miles on the clock.

Personally I'd rather save a grand or two and get one that's got 60k on the clock, been serviced and looked after well than one with 15k on the clock and 7 previous owners.

Consider all aspects of buying a second hand car, not just age and mileage.

My car had 60k on the clock when I purchased it (it was 4 years old at the time) and mechanically I've had no issues in the 3 years I've owned it.

Sorry I did mean tax in the £300 mark wasn't an issue, but £480 is a joke for a years tax.

An extra £180 a year is an issue but thousands on interest over a number of years on a £20k car that is no different to an £8k car (bar the number plate) isn't :p

Why does this matter?

Why does this matter?

It matters because it's a joke of a price for a years tax.

Because if I'm putting 10k into a car, I don't want thousands and thousands of miles on it.

I'd be much happier paying 10k for one with 30k on it.
