Evans halshaw

Please, no matter what you do and what you buy, just don't s**** 15k of someone else's money on this purchase?

Its completely up to you what you send money on, but at least give it some real thought first!

Because if I'm putting 10k into a car, I don't want thousands and thousands of miles on it.

Why? 60k miles on a 6 year old car is hardly a big deal really is it?

I'd be much happier paying 10k for one with 30k on it.

Why? What difference do you think it makes?

If you want a new low mileage car for £10k then perhaps a Focus 1.6?

I am giving it thought, hence why I haven't rushed out and wasted my money.

You gave it so much thought you concentrated on repayment cost per month.

Not number of months and amount repaid back compared to amount borrowed for a car that it sounds like you'll ultimately be bored of in a few months...but stuck with potentially horrendous finance

Come on, start thinking things through

So you'd put 10k+ on a car with that high mileage?

I understand its not an issue if it's got full service history and any major problems have been sorted, but what if I bought it with 60k on, then for it to get to 65k and throw me a massive bill?

The one thing that massively jumps out at me is that you have no need to finance anything. There are plenty of really fun, sport and fast cars available for your budget (£7k-£10k). Financing to get the same car just with 40k less milage on the clock or a number plate that is 2 years newer is crazy as it would be value for money.

A well looked after 5 year old car with 100k on the clock will be as reliable as a 12 month old car with 5k on the clock.

A 3 year old car with 20k on the clock can easily give you the same massive bill. Infact an older car that has say had work done on it already is probably less likely to cause you big bills as more parts will have been replaced and serviced.

PS Fox's car has something like 170k on the clock so he did buy a car with high mileage and did drive it.

Its a Japanese car with a normally aspired engine that will run for hundreds of thousands of miles. There's no real risk here

If you're going to be unlucky, you could be unlucky at 40k, 60k, 160k.

The car and its own typical problems / potential problems matters far more

It's 60k, not 160k. It's not 'that high mileage' at all for a 5-6 year old car.

What if you bought it with 20k on it and it got to 25k and threw you a massive bill?

But surely there's less chance the less miles it has?

Exactly. I'd only be concerned with mileage on a too-complex-for-its-own-good German car and even then only because lower mileage = better warranty availability not becuase it would be super reliable at 40k.

As a case in point, my car - was purchased at 4 years old with 60k on the clock. It's now 7 years old and I have every piece of history on the car and it's not thrown up one large bill.

Will's 911 on here had done less miles and was around the same age (iirc) and ended up costing him roughly £12k (dealer paid the other half, total bill was over £20k).

But surely there's less chance the less miles it has?

There is way more to how reliable a car is than how many miles its covered, it's just one small factor which will dictate the condition of a car.

Would you rather a car with 40k miles on it thats been driven at an average of 24mph or a car with 80k miles on it thats been driven at an average of 48mph?

Hint: They've both been driven for an identical period of time....

I will give them a look, don't suppose you have driven one?

Steady on, thats bordering on rubbish, that is :p

It's possible, I've got friends who've purchased new cars and had nightmares with them, back in the garage every week for this and that.

I've bought a couple of cars from Evans Halshaw and had no dramas. Some warranty work was done no problem.

same, my first audi was from them, they even replaced the wiring harness on it even though their warranty stipulated that it wasn't covered, they even let me choose the business that sorted it, though upto a certain hourly cost. I guess it depends on which outlet it is to what service you get.

Yes I have, I just so happen to be trying to convince myself its reasonably practical for a small dog and that a 107 can handke any 4 seat requirements at this very moment ( not going to wash but hey, if you set your mind to something).

We clearly have very different interests/ tastes though. What is it you expect of the car in terms of interior materials and quality? Because its a world away from a newish a4

Its also a world away from a newish a4 diesel in that it sounds nice, quite quick, handles well and is generally fun to drive

You could get a nice E92 330i or 335i without spending £20k.

There is nothing wrong with a 09 car, I would have no issue driving a 09 car intact my 911 is a 60 plate and it has not thrown any silly bills.

I would only be interested in a GT spec, preferably with full satnav etc, I like the nismo kit too. Not sure if its expensive though?
