Lets try and keep this on topic - I dont think the majority of people here that got the XO really are unaware of what they purchased or feel necessarily duped into the purchase. I can kinda understand their hope, but where it is unfounded or poorly thought-out I dont see it unreasonable to correct and inform...
But this is kinda like 'kicking a man when hes down' and really makes it hard to actually have a structured conversation regards any differences or expectations of what the new consoles will bring as half the time your (considered) point gets ignored because of the console you own which is rather stupid. 'Shoot the messenger' comes to mind...
Do we really want to be doing this in a years time?!? Its growing tiresome...

MS's Albert Penello was posting on NeoGAF just before launch stuff like:

They have brought all this on themselves it appears. People who bought believing those lies have every right to feel duped.

My point is I presume most XO owners here didnt fall for those 'lies' so its unfair to tar them with the same brush and think they didnt make their purchase with open eyes. I just think the pettiness outside of the topic at hand needs to disappear as countless times the threads end with the same generic arguments...
I completely understand the disdain for MS (and their execs) though, the backlash is all their own doing. Time to lie in the bed they made...

Couldn't agree more. People need to stop behaving like they're ambassadors for the company that manufactured their chosen console. You spent £350 on a PS4 or £430 on an Xbox, big deal. It doesn't mean you need to plead allegiance to them and fight their battles on their behalf.
If there was some way to confine the immaturity to a single thread then that'd be ideal, but we're seeing over and over again as it spreads into new threads, derails game discussion, and is ultimately making this board a rather unpleasant place to be again.
If you don't like the Xbox One or the PS4, fine. I don't particularly like Nintendo stuff, but I don't feel the need to bring it up constantly, post links trashing Nintendo or wade into Wii U threads hoping to annoy people.
Nothing I or anyone else says is going to make any difference though.

I would say its making a vast difference, PS4 outselling Xbox One in the U.S 2:1 . That's word out mouth which has caused the sudden switch.

I think the vast majority of people who've bought Xbox Ones have done so because they're big fans of the Xbox exclusive games and nothing else.
I am going to buy a Wii U for the delicious Nintendo exclusives and that's it, however the thing that ruins it for everyone is the small group of Xbox fanatics who keep going on about the gap closing, who are either being delusional, or just have no idea what they're talking about.
But really, what do you do when the only games you want to play are on the Xbox One? Well you get an Xbox One regardless of its power, the same way you get a Wii U if it's Nintendo games you want to play.
Delusion isnt one sided though. I have found people very sensitive in how you (general not specific you) word things, perhaps sometimes a sentiment gets wrongly expressed or something is expressed 'in isolation of' rather than 'in comparison to' a particular console...
Im sure most are happy to clarify if there is that ambiguity, rather than have their point shoved down their throat because it was wrongly taken.
It shouldnt be hard to have a considered conversation, nor is it useful to recycle points already understood.

I bought my XB1 fully aware it's not a mega super duper console like the PS4, I bought it because playing with my friends online in 720p is still good enough for me. I really don't need 1080p to have fun gaming, it seems many do though 
I agree with gameplay over graphics I owned all three last gen consoles at some stage but I don't see how Microsoft justify the price of the xbox one when its clearly underpowered to the cheaper PS4. I currently own a PS4 and I think I'm going to cave in and buy a Wii U I miss those great Nintendo games I really do hope Nintendo sort out the Wii u and give 3rd party developers better support.

Graphics don't matter to you I guess. You + friends could just game on 360 instead. Would have saved you all a pretty penny.

I would say it was allot of money to spend on a few mediocre games. Nearly all the decent games are available on other platforms, or previous iterations are actually better (Forza 4 vs 5).
The 360 still has plenty of game support, so if graphics truly are not important, I don't see a convincing reason to upgrade.
Obviously when XB1 get's some must have exclusives and a price drop or two, then upgrading will be a much more compelling argument.

oh come on now. a few mediocre games!? We're all early adopters. we all spent a lot of money for "a few mediocre games" whether its was £350 or £430.
Comparing the PS3 version to the PS4 version, the PS3 version has much better lighting. I liked the appearance of the snow on the ground more in the PS3 version too.
PS4 screenshot certainly didn't blow me away.
