Looking to buy a 290 today.

Not sure which to get. I've got up to around £440 ish.

Advice and input would be great.

I'm stuck between the MSI 290/290x which is @ a great price.

Or the tri-x 290.

have a trix coming and already have a gaming so let u know :)
i might get shouted at for saying this but i dont think it matters so much aslong as you dont get a lame shot out of a cannon one
its a 290 lottery right now

Why the Saphire over the MSI? are they not the same card (though the pre order saphires are sans overclock)..?

Thanks,

Because the Tri X is simply the best AIB 290 card out there at the moment. The msi has its advantages though. The msi is quieter, but its cooling is a bit weaker. It also has a 3 year warranty vs Sapphires 2 year warranty. I'd still go for the Sapphire personally though.

Another advantage of the MSI is the size of the card. That extra 1.2 inches of the Sapphire gives some extra cooling power but it's no good for those of us with smaller cases. Like my good old Antec 300. ;)

Fair point. But some people need the extra length. For the record despite my previous endorsement of the longer card, I'm not one of those people, ahem.

I changed my order to the tri-x OC. £38 for a bit of piece of mind and as a bonus I'll get it a few days earlier!

When I'm spending £340 I didn't particularly want to be flashing bios and or the likes so just ordered the OC version instead!

Good choice.

going from a old 5870 (was Xfire but one died a few months back) to a 290, believe me when I say I cant wait to get it :D

I'm insanely jealous. not just for the performance over my 7870XT but i also like the idea of its True Audio, which seems very effective. good sound is very important for gaming.
