You can also spectate (and more...) from the Events -> Watch / Ghost / Crew / Spot option.

As the name implies, you can Watch/Spectate, but also Ghost, Crew (as in crew chief in NASCAR) and Spot.

Ghost is why it said configure controls Sasso, you can effectively 'join' the race but as a ghost car, as in they don't see you at all.

Crew needs some setup but allows somebody to control the pit-stop changes for another, all stuff that can be done via the 'F' screens, so fuel level, tape in ovals, and a variety of other stuff depending on car, but just done by another person which could be useful at times (rather than fiddling with that whilst trying to stay under the pit limit in an oval car with no limiter...)

And Spot allows someone (or multiple people) to spot for you, so they can give you information on another persons lap times etc

I really need to pay more attention to the options rather than just racing lol

I like the sound of the ghost option, will give that a try tonight.

When your in spectator mode can you see the drivers gears and throttle and brake so I can watch the fater guys and pick up tips?

With superspeedway racing at Talladega and Daytona it's all in the drafting, and more than that it's bump-drafting, where you actually contact the car ahead and 'push', until your car starts to overheat at which point you have to swap and the other guy pushes you for a bit.

It's quite an intense experience to push, needs practice as the car ahead blocks most of your view of the track so you need to use other indicators as to when to turn in, also needs two good/stable drivers to push through the corners as well, and practice in getting the swap perfect. Make sure you can see your gauges, as soon as they start flashing red then back off and/or swap.

Last time I did any you could actually get most of the bump-drafting benefits, without the need to swap, by just sticking really close and only touching towards the end of the straights, offset the car slightly when not contacting the car ahead and it cools down a bit.

Can't say I'm a fan at all, also due to the close racing and speeds there are always big accidents and even if you do manage to slow down/avoid them you're likely to get some nutjob who learnt to race from Days Of Thunder not lifting and slamming into you.

Nah, it's the same as being in replay mode on a server, can only see the inputs from your car, only way to get inputs from another driver is to get the replay file from them (or them to make a video that includes them).

Wow sounds intense, I do enjoy the ovals but not sure I like the sound of that! Maybe because I will probably never be good enough to actually do it lol

Still will be handy to get the line and braking and throttle points though, thanks mate.

Looking at your personal bests your times are on a par with mine if not better :eek:

Is there a way we can get in on the same race together?

moi? really?! haha I thought my times were terrible xD maybe we're both rubbish ;) haha!

yea I'm pretty sure via the same way as spectate, if we both have the content required it should have "eligible to race" or something and then be able to join off eachother, or just say which selection from the list we're going to click ;)

that drafting.... daymmnnnnn..... sounds like a cluster **** waiting to happen....and I guess it is more often than not! but we could deffo give it a go in a practice cuffy xD

You can hit fairly hard and only get a 0x contact, but done right you won't even get that, the aim isn't to hit them hard just to 'hook up' bumper-to-bumper which gives a drastic reduction of drag for both cars.

It is intense, but I much prefer every other form of oval racing, short tracks especially (or things like Iowa in the nationwide/cup), and yeah it's a recipe for crashes, at best it's 50/50 you'll get through without one.

oh quick Q about incidents. noticed they are usually 0x, 2x, 4x, 2x->4x....

guess this gives the incident rating at the end so if you got: contact x2, contact x2. you'd get an incident count of 4? so by "hooking bumpers" you might possibly get a contact 0x, that equates to 0 incident right? :p i.e. doesn't matter or count negatively against you?

Yep, you could have a million 0x contacts and it means nothing, in races at least, in qualifying/tt's it would still 'invalidate' that lap.

The SR is a "Corners Per Incident" (or CPI) count basically, where for Rookie you look at less corners than for D-Class, which is less than C-Class etc. So A-Class drivers have both a harsher modifier to get from CPI to the SR number but also have to maintain that level over more driving.

So if you do 10 corners, and get 4 incidents then that both adds 4 incidents to your total but also knocks 10 corners out of the 'back' of the queue. Now if those 10 corners already had 4 incidents you'd see limited/no change to SR, if they had 8 incidents then your SR would improve even though you got incidents or if they had 0 incidents then you're SR would go down. simples ¬_¬ :p

I am pretty terrible tbh, but I can run clean most of the time and thats my goal for now then I will work on lap times :D

Yeah lets give it a go in practice mate, could be a laugh :D

Yeah the short tracks are rather fun if not scary at the same time lol

4.) How does the safety rating work and what types of incidents can be incurred?

The safety rating is a no fault system that penalizes drivers for incidents that can impede one's own progress or the progress of another driver.

0X - Minimal contact with a wall or another car.
1X - The centerline of your car or more off of the racing surface.
2X - A loss of control occuring when your car spins to a certain angle.
4X - Hard car contact resulting in substantial damage.

So as I understand it yes, if you get 0X then you wont get a penalty, however you need to take into account the details below as well.

5.) Are penalties incurred if your actions result in an incident for another driver.

Yes, the penalty system does not attemp to assing any blame. If you bump a car resulting in a 0X and the hit car spins or hits a wall you will recieve the same incident that the wrecked driver incurred, but only if the incidents happen within 5 seconds. This can also result you receiving unfair incidents if you receive a 0X and then the driver gets in an incident which is not caused by your 0X, but they are few and far between.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, and that's when you'd get something like "1x->4x", where a 1x off track was then followed within 5 seconds by a car contact, so the 1x is gone and replaced by the 4x for 4 incidents onto the total.

I have a degree in math and I still don't get it

lol at the first video.....the perils of not been able to see whats in front of you except a bumper :D

So when its done right its a race changer!

ahhhh righttttt I think I get the safety rating.... kinda. xD just don't **** up and everything will be fine ;)

not sure what you mean by 10 corners xD but I get the other bit :p

yea cuffy we should at least give it a whirl.... never know... might be pro at it haha! the game has voip build in right? how decent is it or is it just worth using teamspeak as we could just jump on our clans server?

SHAKE-N-BAKE BABY!!!!!

(might have to watch Talladega nights tonight haha! )

edit: oh wow that first video xD I thought the end was looped for dramatic effect but nope....actually spun than many times :p

Yep, in that video the driver in front should've told the pusher about the car before going low, but presumably he didn't and that's what happens, no time to react to that :p

It's done on corners rather than laps basically, because of different tracks having different numbers of corners, so Laguna Seca has 7 iirc, whilst some of the VIR layouts have way more.

The built in voice chat is pretty good, and definitely usable. Some people claim mumble/teamspeak is better but having used mumble as well it's not really much different to me at least, but whatever works for you.

Ingame is pretty good really but I have it set on push to talk which is kinda annoying when your driving so TS would be better. I can jump on yours if thats ok?

I'm going to record it as well because it will deffo end in tears :)

thanks Skill :) think I get it.... maybe xD but yea I've noticed the good calls of some people in some races :D reminds me of when I took part in a 24hr pedal kart race (we were a bit old but did it with scouts for the lols) and drafting people and then screaming "ON YOUR RIGHT" approaching others to let them know we were coming...and not stopping haha!

ahh I use PTT with everything, driving with one hand like a boss ;) but really I need to set the PTT to one of my wheel buttons too xD

yea more than welcome on the TS: ts.thefallenunit.com (look for DrSasso)

disclaimer: anything that is said on TS is to be taken with a GIANT spoon of salt :p a lot of **** gets flung back and forth but it is, for the most part, in good jest :) we'll just avoid the battlefield room when racing or won't get a word in edgeways haha!!!

ay I'll try and get OBS on my pc and stream ;) can't be on it all night as playing rust with some mates but should be able to get an hour or so in :D should be home from 6:30ish
