Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Can't remember who raved about it (maybe you filbster?) but currently sat enjoying a very nice espresso in window coffee Norwich, lovely blend and very well made :)

Sounds like me. :D

Glad you liked it. It is my favourite coffee shop. Hayley is lovely and there is always something interesting on the board to try. Cakes and stuff, also great. The Window had its 4th birthday earlier this week too.

The spraying mentioned above was due to the use of the default basket that comes with the Classic along with removing the little black nodule thing from between it and the portafilter. I did the same to my friend's walls a while back. It was a fun afternoon :p

Little black nodule thing?

I must have one of the older Classic as I don't see any black thing? unless you are talking about the black rubber ring seal...which I doubt.

Few weeks into the Expobar machine and really happy with it. Never really bothered with latte art when I had my Gaggia but have been trying to give it a go recently

Great photo's above!

I went to some lovely cafe's in Berlin, I can highly recommend the following:

The Barn. Went after closing (the machine), picked up a bag of beans and they recommended visiting their cupping session. It was informative and a lot of fun. Looking forward to trying their beans again tonight.

Five elephants. Great cheesecake in addition to a very nice flat white.

Katies blue cat. Cakes again were very good.

On the subject of beans, how do I avoid wasting the first 20g of my bag dialing in my grinder. Hit and hope for the best?

Not all that much you can do i'm afraid, just guess pretty much - you'll get to know approximately what the difference between the end of bag and a fresh bag is, however sometimes you'll be totally out :(

just accept that the first cup or two isn't going to be perfect, and after you pour the first shot refine immediately (even if your not going to pour a second straight away)

Does anyone have any recommendations for an pump espresso machine around the £100 mark (no more than £150 preferrably). If I can get a used one in good condition I would consider.

My Delonghi Bar32 has just refused to put out any water and I've been wanting a new one for a while anyway. Anyone have any experience with the Dualit Espressivo?

Thanks! :)

Just received my first shipment of coffee from Bailiescoffee.com

Other half bought it as part of my birthday present (I'll have a different bag of beans every month for 6 months!) :)

P.s. thanks for all that answered my question on cups per bag... I'm doing about the same which is good :)

so..

just ordered the MC2 grinder, rancilo wand upgrade and some back wash thingy.

going to send back the dualit grinder - though i must admit it was probably fine.

guys at happy donkey where amazing via email - very patient and responsive.

Im off down to London with the wife in April, any good suggestions to get a coffee and maybe some excellent beans to bring back?

Mainly planing on doing museums and sightseeing, also plan to pop to borough market so any within reasonable walking distance as i would struggle to to justify a tube trip just for a coffee when shes happy with a fruity tea/soft drink.

I had a flat white and a pastry in Monmouth, borough market a few months back. Both very nice indeed.

Sure others more knowledgeable will have other suggestions. There's also a good paid app for iPhone that shows top coffee shops in London, handy if you need to find a place near wherever you happen to be at the time.

Hey all, I've just received my bottomless portafilter for my Silvia from Happydonkey, just after a bit of advice.

The basket itself is much bigger than the original, so should I be putting more coffee in?
Using the standard setup I use about 12-16g but in the bottomless one, that doesn't seem much and on the first go, it went everywhere!

Advice please!!:D

will your basket from the old portafilter not fit in, if you was happy with the coffee you was getting before it should just replace the one that came with your bottomless.

i dont currently have a bottomless portafilter but i know the quantity, grind, freshness and bean quality need to be all in sync to get the lovely pour you see in the videos
