Giving Up Coffee

I drink an astonishing amount of coffee in comparison to most. I've had about 5 cups by lunchtime, about the same in the afternoon by 6pm and then a few more between 10pm and midnight while I'm doing a bit of evening learning.

I think it's par for the course in IT though, most of my colleagues are on a similar pattern of consumption.

...I like tea but I don't understand this country's obsession with it. Much prefer coffee, just for the taste. I don't get a buzz from drinking coffee anymore so I could probably do with cutting it out actually.

I hate coffee so I haven't drunk much of it in my life. Saying that I would most likely drink it if given to me and sometimes feel like giving it a try. I do like tea but don't drink it regularly.

Try cutting out coffee after a certain time - I make my last coffee of the day straight after lunch, otherwise I have trouble sleeping.

Same here. Same profession too.

On my 4th cup today, and that's more than normal for me and I love coffee.

8 cups a day?!?! You must be so wired all the time.

I think I read somewhere that a coffee drinker gains no more energy or anything than a non coffee drinker. After a while when you become addicted, all that happens when you drink coffee, is satisfy any withdrawal symptoms.

Wow some people in here drink a crazy amount. In my opinion, it sounds very noble to give up coffee entirely, but at the end of the day I prefer everything in moderation. I try not to have more than 3-4 teas/coffees a day. And nothing after 3-4pm. In fact at work most of those are tea, just the one mid morning coffee. 8-15 coffees a day!? You guys must have been sick in the head, let alone what it'd have been doing to your insides!

My wife's a definite case of that. Some days, she'll exclaim that she's just realised why she's got a banging headache -- she hasn't had a coffee since the afternoon!

Pretty much just green tea for me, these days.

Every time you feel the urge for a strong cup of coffee, have a refreshing pint of lager instead.

Mornings a particular problem for you? Try adding 2 shots of scotch to your pint. It's amazing what a difference this simple addition can make!

I don't understand why you'd cut it out completely.

Just cut down. Everything in moderation.

Do it over a period of about 6 weeks until you're drinking 1 cup a day.

I too cut back on coffee, I have 1 most mornings now then just decaf tea and coffee instead. I hardly tell the difference anymore.

See your GP immediately if your body reacts badly to the withdrawal. Clues that you've gone too hard too soon might include talking like this:

"Are

eh lads I said I liked magazines, what's that? getting me jam salad everywhere"

I could have two double espresso drinks in a day, others I could do without and not feel any worse off for it, dunno what the fuss is about.

I actually can't stand the taste of coffee, and don't like drinking tea either, just seems wrong drinking something warm, always drink cold stuff.

I seem to be in a minority and it gets very annoying when people at work are always asking do you want a tea/coffee etc and I have to keep repeating nooooo! :D
