*** Xperia Z2 Official Thread ***

Looking like a strong contendor for an upgrade from my Note 1 though I'm struggling to justify it as the Note 1 is still a great phone.

Can you recall what the biggest issues were?

Not off hand, for a variety of reasons both my sons are changing phones and n5, z1, g2 have all been thoroughly reviewed and ruled out, z2 was the strongest runner against the s4 but reading a number of threads on xda and a couple of other sites as well as comments in articles et al eventually resulted in the z1 falling behind the newly cheap n5. My oldest is weighing up the s5 and vfm n5 and my youngest has settled on the Note 3.

I actually like this, never liked the Z1.

Props to Sony!

Edit*
So rooting a Sony means you lose Sony apps even if you just simply root to gain the ability to manage app backups (Titanium)?

Not at all. I think what the above poster was getting confused with unlocking the bootloader.

If you unlock the bootloader, you will wipe Sony's DRM keys so less access to things like the Mobile Bravia engine. A way round this is to backup the TA partition before unlocking the bootloader and then restore after.

There are methods available for rooting with a locked bootloader, although obviously no one has the KitKat Xperia Z2, so there are no known methods for rooting so far. Shouldn't be too long though before a solution turns up.

Wall of text and no pics in OP???!! :p

Less text more pics! :D

Finally a proper flagship from Sony. ZL like bezel would have been nice.

I was on about flashing roms, I believe I'm correct as that's how I read all the posts on xda about it if I am wrong soz for the wrong info.

Yes, will include some later - haven't had a chance to yet! :D

Yes for custom ROMs that is correct as in most cases you will need to unlock the bootloader. However there are methods to root without unlocking the bootloader.

Ah thought so, in my initial reply I should have differentiated between rooting and flashing to the poster I replied to, so you can gain root access for such as Cerberus but romming will mess your phone, irrecoverably??

Out of all the phones being released this year, this looks extremely promising.

HOWEVER Sony aren't exactly great when it comes to software updates and aren't as transparent as say HTC who have really stepped up their game in that department.

Secondly will the Z2 be plagued by the camera flash problem which is prevalent on its sibling the Z1C?

I didnt realise how good sony phones looked now, i kept seeing ugly slabs with light bars on them looking horrendously tacky and havent followed sony since. This will be my next phone though its gorgeous. When is it due out?

The viewing angles should be good:

Almost went for the Z1 with only the screen putting me off, if the Z2 has improved the display ( as it appears ) then I'm sold and will be my mobile of choice this year.

i900 - i9100 - i9300 - i9305 - Z2.

So long Samsung, we've had a good run but with the laughable S5 and KNOX it's time for us to part ways.

This looks the best of the new phones so far all the other guys have stepped up there game big style now

Sony and LG seem to be on a roll
