• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

DirectX and OpenGL will start offering low-level access in order to reduce draw overhead

Interesting quotes there from the original article and hopefully they are close to full swing. Not sure if this would be an exclusive DX12 for W8 or even further ahead and W9 but it is the right thing to do and I trust in D3D to do the right thing.

Windows 9 and DirectX 12 makes a lot of sense, ditch the stuff people hated about W8 keep the bits people liked, add in better performance API in DirectX 12 and Windows 9 could be extremely popular.

Yep get rid of mantle and go back down the same route of boning pc gamers. Sounds like a good plan from Microsoft.

Yep we asked them for nearly 20 years and got nothing for a good while now. We are still asking so hopefully they deliver.

Agreed. It is a shame when you need a very expensive CPU to power a couple fo high end cards and even then the CPU needs a massive OC to cope.

Games like Hitman/Sleeping Dogs/BF3/4/Even Tomb Raider require the 3930K to be at over 4.6 to allow a pair of Titans to work at full speed. It would be great to have the option to buy a cheap CPU and for it to have the ability to power a couple of decent cards. I remember the 2500K not being that old and not having the ooomph to power a pair of 680's in BF3.

Anyway, It is an open standard that doesn't work in favour of one or the other and hopefully MS can deliver. As much as I want OGL to be in the mix, sadly I can't see that happening (not without a massive cash injection).

All we have seen so far from Mantle is a few extra fps and washed out graphics in BF4, so Microsoft have plenty of time to make a response.. I assumed Flopper's post was a joke but I'm not sure? Lol.

The fog bug was fixed by dice in the recent patch. As predicted it did not impact on fps. I'd say 20-30% performance improvement is not just 'a few fps', but each to their own.

Please tell me how those graphics look washed out? I assumed you clicked the link i posted.

"to little to late.

I love Mantle."

So smoother game play in bf4, same graphics as of the bf4 patch and 14.2 and more fps. Starswarm is much faster on mantle.

Yes there are bugs at this moment which is the downside. I think we have seen enough to say mantle has good potential when compared to dx. Hell mantle is patched in to these games so it's not even representive to what a full blown mantle game can do. So better than dx with the limited use so far.

I would be willing to bet a full on mantle game would make dx look pretty silly. We will probably never get this though.

I get 90+% scaling over three Ti's at 1440P :D I know that's not 1080 though.

Finally, a kick up the bottom is what they need but if they make it exclusive to Windows 8.
Then there will be hell to pay.

When I was testing Sniper Elite or Thief (can't remember), dropping settings resulted in the same fps as ultra settings. That shouldn't happen and I am pretty sure it was Sniper Elite and that 2GB debate thread.

Maybe DX was the bottleneck, maybe bad coding... Who knows? but that wasn't right anyways.

Matt, seriously. That area draws some silly high frames for me, it's like one the least intensive part of the map I could find besides E looking over the skybox.

Three Ti's all at stock on stock 4960 @ 4ghz.

That's just one spot though, i did post others. I'm surprised im just 50 fps away from you though and you have three gpu's. Even more impressive considering my cpu is holding me back a bit. Would love to try out Mantle on a 6 core cpu monster. As always though its a pointless comparison with bf4 online when you have a faster cpu with more cores/threads. If you want to disable some cores/threads to compare then please do. If you do though you'll find yourself cpu bottlenecked, just like i do.

I think the way you have to look at it is matt's on a much lesser cpu and his 2 gpu's cost about the same as 1 of yours. Add in another 290 to matt's sytem and he probably won't be to far of your fps. All this on a system that cost's a fraction of yours which is pretty impressive.

50fps is a lot mate lol.

Bang for buck is something I'm really not a fair listener of. :D I want to do disable cores but I don't know if I can be bothered at the moment

If i threw in another card id beat your 175 fps though, even on pci-e 2.0 x8 x8 and with old reference blowers. :p

It's not just about bang for buck. It's your overall system is just much more powerful in every way. The only real way to test would be to stick 290's in your machine or for matt to use 2 780ti's.

110 FPS? it depends on a lot of things, GFX setting, CPU bottleneck.... 110 FPS @ 1440P on Ultra certainly doesn't seem bad, not at all.

Hi gaming at 1440p you don't need some settings on ultra if at all, as you have more pixels giving better detail anyway.

I took a screen shot in Ghost in one map where there was lots of detail one with ultra settings, one at High and the third with Nvidia Geforce Experience settings and basically could not see any difference in detail at all.

So l just let Nvidia Geforce Experience optimize my games, l would imagine AMD Gaming Evolved Center will give optimum settings as well.

Agreed.

I'm at a loss on cores/threads which in BF is very important when you have more than one gpu.
