• Competitor rules

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

DirectX and OpenGL will start offering low-level access in order to reduce draw overhead

I'm tempted, it's not because I don't want to it's just this is my only evening without the mrs this week so I should be gaming and this just seems like all too much effort lol :D

Cripple your system to make it fair Frosty for goodness sake.

Lol. I don''t care whether he does or not. Just saying if you're both so keen to compare to my results then to make it accurate you'd need to have the same or similar cpu settings.

I honestly feel that your DX frames are very low. I seem to remember your fps being much higher in the BF4 bench thread on <14.1 drivers but maybe they have never been that good and as you say, you can now run the CPU at stock to get the same frames as what it gets overclocked.

It doesn't matter and if you are happy, that is all that counts but to me, DX isn't as bad as is being made out but sure, it could do with an overhaul.

Just out of interest, have you run with your CPU at stock and Mantle yet? I would be interested to see if it does relieve the bottleneck.

He's only at 4ghz though whilst you're 5 or something aren't you Matt?

I was at 4.8ghz, but he has a 6 core 12 thread cpu and i have a 4 core 8 thread cpu. Battlefield 4 uses every thread on a cpu so the more threads, the more performance you get. This is specifically important when you have more than one gpu.

Lol. I never used 14.1 ^^ It wouldn't run on my system. It locked up when i tried to use crossfire on BF4. Are you making this up Greg? I've never posted any results on 14.1 apart from one single card run in the Mantle bench thread. :D

If you look back at what i benched in that thread on 13.12, it was largely 32 man TDM. This was benched on a 64 man server with the cpu playing a much bigger part.

290 and a titan are about even in performance on dx when using the same cpu as showed by every tech site out there when benching bf4. Similar to the 290X and the 780TI. My directx results would be higher if i had a 6 core cpu. I'm bottlenecking my 290's, even with my cpu at 4.8ghz and my gpus at stock clocks.

I've not yet, but i will do at some point.

Finally, a kick up the bottom is what they need but if they make it exclusive to Windows 8.
Then there will be hell to pay.

Think they have shown their colours in the past on that note  a nice lightweight gaming OS from MS would be great but until Steam or another Linux OS starts getting popular I doubt they will do it.

You made me decide to do so digging. I only posted two results for BF4 with my 290's as far as i can see. As i said, both 32 man TDM. However i will now try and clock match and compare Mantle VS DX for ya. ;)

ok I've crippled CPU and only two cards running, all stock. back in 5

Atta boy. I knew you'd do it. :p

Check some other spots as well that i linked as clearly that particular one is not that heavy on the cpu after all.

there you are Matt. All stock, two card run and CPU de-limbed and crippled. :D

2 cores running (as selected in BIOS)

Any other areas worth screening?

I never said you did use 14.1 LOL. < means less than, which I was referring to pre 14.1 drivers IE non Mantle drivers. I always thought that the 290 was about the same as the Titan but after the last nVidia drivers, performance shot up for me, which was noted on another tech site. I can probably find it if you need proof.

I recall making a joke about getting Mantle performance just from a driver update :D

Check my post and copy as you please. You should try a non crippled run as well to see the difference.

There will always be a reason it isn't fair Frosty. Don't waste your time bud.

I never said anything of the sort. I merely suggested to try a crippled & non crippled two card run to compare to my two card run. I'm surprised im even able to get near his fps with my system compared to his.
