This morning I was driving to work when a transit van ploughed in to the back of the car in front. I stopped to check everyone was ok, give the victim my details in case he needed a witness, and help tidy up the mess. I got to work about 15 minutes late, but hey, I did the right thing.

Sitting at my desk just now I got a tweet from Daytona Karting saying I'd won a free Arrive and Drive race from a competition I'd completely forgotten I'd entered... AWWW YISS

Nice start to the week at least

Anyone else had something like this happen?

I don't like using the word Karma, but I do believe what goes around comes around so to speak.

That's because you are forcing people to go through your open door. They can't say "No thanks" and wait for you to close it. Expecting a thanks is just silly.

Perhaps I didn't construct that sentence clearly. I'm trying to say that people immediately behind me often don't say thank you when I pass through a door and hold it open for their passage.

Yep, which is why I'm an ass to some people under the assumption that they deserve it for some reason.

Yes, good manners matter and take next to no effort.

Back to the original post - the karma isn't complete yet: it finishes when, in several weeks time, you're left cursing the day you ever stopped to help, as you're dragged into a prolonged legal battle between the other two parties.

I learnt my lesson many years ago and now go out of my way to never 'witness' anything.

For the same reasons I stopped doing this years ago along with giving up my right of way and flashing other motorists in and out of parking spaces and junctions.

Next time you curse the person in front of you for not holding the door open, or that motorist for not letting you out of that busy junction, think back to this thread and realise it's probably because they're fed up with putting themselves out to help other people who think that manners "don't matter".
