My Phantom S5.

Its not leased.

The stage thing... maybe its a little odd but I am just referring to what the tuners call their various stages; its pretty common??

But ill break it down for you on this car.

S5 3.0tfsi Stage 1; ECU remap. Everything else is stock. This gets around an extra 84 AWHP over stock.

Stage 2+; smaller pulley+belt upgrade, generally an intake and an exhaust. Around the 400 AWHP mark, but depends on your choice of assisting mods and if they are helping.

Depends on lots of variables, but MRC tuning for example recently hit 500hp on a stage 2+ car without any internal modifications.

Bit off topic from the remapping, i'm actually interested in the eco side of things funny enough, reading MPG figures and its only £260 to tax, that's fantastic considering its big engine and bhp.

Efficiency mode on ADS on the motorway last night was returning around 38mpg in 7th, doing 75.

Stages in tuning used to have a specific meaning so made sense.

Stage 1 Usually Bolt on externals (manifolds, carbs, filters, and ignition tweaks to match (now a basic remap although the mods will work without one, just not as well))

Stage 2 Usually some degree of port matching, camshaft changes, uprated or hybrid turbos etc Any change that requires other parts, remap or changes to make them compatible (typically this is as far as you would go for road use)

Stage 3 would then usually result in significant head mods, larger valves, proper gas flowing on a flow bench etc. Usually with Max performance in mind with little thought put to road drive-ability or reliability.

They were known by specific terms...

Stage 1 Fast Road
Stage 2 Road and Track
Stage 3 Race

You can makes Stage 1, 2 or 3 changes to Engine, Chassis, Transmission etc etc

Anything above stage 1 on the road usually results in some degradation of the road driving experience in exchange for improved lap times on the track.

Anyone in the VAG world knows what the stages mean. Much quicker than having to list all your mods everytime you tell someone.

"VAG world"

Now stand in front of a mirror, look at yourself in the eyes and say that.

Yes you sound ridiculous.

It is the same in the Ford world too. I bet that sounds ridiculous but I bet Honda world sounds just amazing amiright?

In fact, I bet the reason Honda boys don't simply say "My EP3 is stage 2!" is because then they can't go "ORRRR I AVE A GENUINE TODA EXHAUST, FOUR TWO MANNYFOLD, GRUPPE M INTAKE, ORRRR, £800 SO MUST BE AMAZING, ALL GENYUNE!!!! ORRRR"

I usually associate people who talk about stage X on their car as the sort of people who have fairly standard, unexciting diesel cars and are attempting to make their fairly standard, unexciting diesel car sound like a high performance, exciting tuning platform.

Nice car btw OP.

Stop, you are embarrassing yourself.

*ducks out of the way of the flying handbags* :p

ay just give it a good boot around before you do so you can give a comparative opinion on how the extra work feels :D

So when are you going to rage quit from the forum again?

It will be getting before and after dyno's also :)

if you ever feel the need to let someone else drive it feel free to bring it down swansea way ;)

I imagine it will be getting even more so after the dynos... POWWARRRRR!!! :p

Summed up the average VW/Audi diesel driver :p

"stages" vary from one car/engine combo to the next, depending on the capability.

it then depends on the tuner you use... ie nearly infinite variables and only really useful if youre talking to other like minded fanbois.

on a 1.8t VAG, stage one is at least a generic remap.

Stage two is remap tailored to the car, so typically includes bolt ons (but the degree of bolt ons will vary)

so unless youre a fanboi, "stages" mean nothing
