I have been using e-on for there electricity for 4 months now in a one bedroom flat (all electric).

They estimated my usage at £94 a month and thats what ive been paying for 4 months,i gave them regular meter readings every week but it was still £94,fast forward to the monday just gone, phoned them up to see how much "credit" i had amassed, turns out to be just over £100 :).

Asked the man on the phone to transfer the money back into my account as i didnt want it sat in e-on's account, gave me some splii about building up credit...i dont want to build up credit but have a steady amount going out each month,he said my direct debit would now go up as i have taken the credit out,how could this be going up as i have credit of my account which meant i was paying to much each month....had a bit of a ding dong with him and put the phone down.

Tuesday evening i got a e-mail from e-on...Dear Mr Schizo (not my real name lol) as from the 1st april your monthly direct debit will going up to £167 !
At this point i chuckled to myself as i knew they wouldn't be getting any where near that amount, phoned up e-on wednesday morning and after some discussion with a friendly chap...i got my direct debit down to £75 a month, which was what i wanted to pay all along but they wouldn't have any of it.

Morale of this story is....dont let these comapnys get away with all this stuff, they will try it on but stand your ground and they will buckle.

I'm £400 in credit. I've been with npower since August. Have given reading every month but they have never given me a proper bill. I've had bills but then next day they reverse it.

Thesr companies are a disgrace. Our direct debit is £119 a month. Crazy.

I will not be in credit that much, sits in there account earning shed loads of interest from other people as well.

Npower are charging me £47 a month, 2 bedroom flat.

Even £75 a month seems crazy to me, but then I guess my flat is equipped with storage heaters.. :(

Npower did the same with us... we were over £200 in credit at the end of the year. They refunded it to our bank account, then about a week later upped our monthly payment by over £50.

Couldn't believe it. Cancelled and moved to a fixed deal with... E.On. LOL.

You just can't win.

They are all seemingly as bad as each other. We moved from E-on to Npower as they tried to up our direct debit even though we were massively in credit and they massively overestimated our annual usage for the upcoming year. Exactly the same happened when we went to Npower; I have never met such an incompetent bunch of cowboys. They tried upping our direct debit from £76 to £94 even though we are £300 in credit with them so we are currently in the process of switching to ovo energy in hope that they are even slightly better.

we are paying 150 a month... Sickening.

Lucky, very lucky. 28 Nov to 14 Feb, £785.25 elec & gas combined with e-on, £548.63 of which is electricity. Two bed house, LEDs everywhere, all appliances A rated, no electric heating and we spend 12 hours a day out of home.

I manage my e-on account online and get to choose exactly how much I pay each month.

2 bed flat, all electric and this year I've paid £27 a month. The winter hasn't been particularly cold so I've broken even. Last year I was paying £41 and was £240 in credit which they gave back to me come my contract renewal.

Unsure whether to stay with them or not but I guess they're all much of a muchness.

I gotta say, I have been with british gas for years and cannot fault them, if I am in credit I can just login and unload the credit to my account, I submit meter readings monthly using their app, if they think I am paying too much they reduce the next months payment.

3 bed end of terrace house, heavy electricity user and heavy on the gas at the moment, I pay £42pm electricity and £56pm Gas.

Wait until you see my electric bill in 2 -3 weeks. Expecting it to be £700 - £1000 for a 3 month period, that's a heavy user :p

Doing a bit of hydroponic cultivating are we :), changing all the bulbs to LEDs in my house reduced my electricity usage by about 20%.

Don't know why people use estimated instead of actual usage, the energy companies purposely over estimate in order to make more money so it doesn't really effectively even out payments as you're paying more, all you need to do is to look at last years usage to get a true estimate.

Somewhat hilariously we are with British Gas for electricity and Southern Electric for gas pretty much for these reasons, when they get too silly with the whole in credit/directdebit thing we just switch them around and back again (its actually been less hassle in the past than getting the directdebit back to sensible levels, etc.).

Crikey, our combined monthly DD for gas and electric in a 3 bed detached is only £90 (with Southern Electric), has the OP got a street light connected to his meter?! And that has given us a fairly comfortable credit buffer zone on both bills particularly as we now approach the cheaper quarters.

I dont have a clue why its so high,i dont use the cooker for 5 days as i have dinner at work, only have one heater on and my pc which is good but not high end.
