Looking back at retro gaming stores!

There was another computer shop in Bury (Micro North?) and all the games were in a locked glass case. We are talking £7.99 Spectrum/C64 games here.
When you wanted to buy one, they had to come out from behind the counter, unlock and slide the glass back to get the game.
May have only been £7.99 but you felt like it was something precious!

Leisureworld on Queen Street, Belfast. Remember getting Shinobi for the SEGA Master System and sitting in the back of the car for the 13 mile drive home being one of the longest trips I've ever endured. :D

Just to say, I used to love it when PC games came in big boxes.

The boxes for the Discworld series were true works of art. Anyone know any similar great boxes?

I used to go to Wrexham Beast market, and they used to have second hand N64/PS1 games for atleast half the price what the shops had, really miss those days :(

I remember when all the white goods stores (Tempo, Powerhouse, Curries, Dixons, Comet) used to stock games with consoles and PCs set up to play on. TIME PC often had their own little section in the shop.

I also remember Zone who use to fashion their shops with a kind of industrial look. You'd have these areas with 4 consoles mounted in this circular pillar to play on. Good time to be a kid though I had no money.

Virgin Megastores

I used to love going to the one by the corner of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road. Gaming floor was right at the top, used to go every few weeks. Remember buying C & C Red Alert. Good times.

Can anyone ID a 90's PC game for me? It's driving me mad.

My clues are immensely scarce. All I know is that it was a 3D adventure, and you had to rescue a princess from a medieval type setting. You was chased during the game by what can only be described as a wolf. I remember on a bit in the game where you had to steal something from a church, and the bishop or whatever shouted "sacrilege" when you did it.

It may have begun with A.

Anyone?

I used to hit the Piccadilly circus one every lunchtime. Quick walk up Haymarket from the office and I was there.

Still miss Mr Disk that was on Queensway in Birmingham city centre. Bought so many master system, spectrum, mega drive, snes and psx games from there. Was an awesome shop that did great deals on trading in games.

Makro used to have a decent section in Croydon. There was also a store called 'bytes' for a while. I used to love going into those places. Anyone remember the game 'Little Big Adventure'?

Chipshop 2000 on Slater Street, Liverpool City Centre. There was another place on London Road too, I think it was called TNT games.

Were computer fairs for retro games though? Most of the ones I went to were overpriced underpowered hardware for the most part, pirated games, various other useless things, and then a few decent stalls selling decent stuff at decent prices if I needed something and didn't want to wait for it to be delivered.

They still are :D

K-Video (local shop for local people) for my C64 and Speccy games and they used to hire them out. I loved my tape to tape recorder :D

I used to hate the massive boxes that came with the games. Storage was a nightmare of all those huge different sized boxes.
