Finally...new car

So in a nutshell, there's now't in it economy wise.

But I have heard that the 2.0 TFSi is thirsty and uses oil??

I have no personal experience of this.

I owned a 1.8t 20v passat with 150hp and this car has 160hp and although the passat is probably slightly heavier, the tfsi is in another league.

Been out in it at 6pm and was driving it on the moors and honestly there is no need for manual gearchanges, the gearbox in D just seems to accurately guess what you are going to do. I actually thought to myself "this is the first time I have had fun driving for years". The 2.0t was so quick with s-tronic that you were always worrying that you were going to fast, and the tdi was...boring. This is just about perfect, honestly I would only need/use any more power for motorway overtaking.

SkodaMart what fuel do you run it on? According to the forums (and my own experience) tfsi engines do a lot better mpg on Tesco Super/Shell V-Power than "normal" petrol.

1.8 TSi is very torquey it's almost like a very refined turbo diesel in that respect.

You have to rev the 20vt more, I had the 180 BHP version in a much lighter car than a Passat.

Ah! That's a fair comment, being 100% honest, I ran my vRS on Shell VPower and my 1.8TSi on supermarket petrol.

So make what you will of that.

Comparing my current S3 with my previous S3 1.8T I have no difference in MPG at all. On long trips I have managed 38mpg average in both. That was even with my previous S3 at 280HP and my current at 310HP. Like you say in paper the TFSI is better but real world not much well not in my hands it isn't:)

The 1.8tfsi is a rare one with the A3 not many of them sold as far as I know!

The 2.0t FSI has one expensive issue over the 1.8t FSI.... high pressure fuel pump needs replacing otherwise you only get full power at high RPM. This costs £400 to modify your own and £800 to buy one from APR etc. 1.8t FSI doesn't have this problem.

Saw the link to the advert in the Audi thread and it looks in fantastic condition. I just couldn't bring myself to spend anywhere near that kind of money on one, but I reckon I'm in a minority with the amount I see driving around. :p

I prefer it to the 8P3 tbh...they are all black editions which look a bit common these days.

My A3 2.0 TFSi averages between 35/40mpg when i had it. I thought it was quite frugal for the power it offered. Obviously that dropped when you drove with a lead foot.

This isn't an issue at stock power and its also fine for a stage 1 remap. I don't think the A3 2.0TFSI pump is any different to the S3 HPFP and that's good for 300HP.
