Road Cycling Essentials

Meanwhile, in Scotland, I've spent my weekend cycling in some of the worst weather we've had all winter.

Yesterday was the strongest wind I've ever been out in. We aborted the bunch ride before we got half way. Had to then navigate a fallen tree across the A70 with the bikes on shoulders cyclocross stylee. Then about 10km from home got hit by huge gusts that had me hitting the kerb and having to give it everything to stop myself going over. Was fighting to keep the bike pointing forward but it was going sideways instead. Scary stuff.

Today was 70km cycling round inside a rain cloud. Still pretty windy but not as bad. Utterly drenched though.

Hooray for spring time! :(

Weather better imrpove so I can cycle in and out of work with the hope of surviving this BTR on the 16th!

I decided to go a drive to Muirkirk, Sorn then back in via Moscow and the Eaglesham moor road. Much easier than cycling!

Just had a little clean up on my TT.

Took off the zipp stickers as the previous owner had decided that he didn't like the corima stickers that were on the disc and whateever were on the aero wheels. Felt like a fraud! :D Still got some residue left on them, but will give that a clean off in the week.

Also got improvising to make my rear light as aero as possible, so have managed to mount it right up in the saddle rails using some cable ties. Marginal gains and all that! :D

Bit dark, but you get the idea.

Christ, i'd forgotten it was quite as soon as that. That's next sunday!

Ach well, i'll be happy if i just make it round. Hope the weather is better by then.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the fork. And yes, the seat pin is fine.

Not really sure what you're trying to point out. This is a bike I ride every week into town, and if I had more time (and money) would spend the effort restoring to the former glory of the Peugeot TdF team. I spent a while trying to find components/decals and did so, but decided it wasn't something I could afford last year.

Thanks for your monumental input though.

where've you put it up?
tbh even if it does need a new fork it shouldn't be an issue.

Training starting to catch up with me, seem to be getting on the bike with very sore legs most days! Recovery spin tomorrow then a couple of days off I think.

I was the same based on my mileage + gym. I had Saturday off (did a whole 8 miles to go for lunch with friends :p ) and I felt much better today. I need to work in more regular rest days..somehow :/

Thought I'd go for a recovery ride but decided to try out the Rapha pro team jersey I picked up in the sample sale. I was worried I'd get marked as a nodder so ended up belting around the Cheshire lanes for a couple of hours. Legs REALLY hurt now! Great ride in the spring sunshine.

Wow what a morning. I feel privileged to have witnessed Dawn this morning. The sun was...well, as big as the sun! Stunning, absolutely stunning.

@OMS whilst I remember, what grinder/espresso maker do you have?

My wife said to me yesterday that as a treat for "being promoted" I can get one :). And I remember yours being pretty spot on.

This one?

That's the Classic, yeah. If you shop around you can sometimes get it cheaper though - £140 pops up quite a lot.

There's an ebay outlet that sells "reconditioned" ones but 99% of people that order them say that they're actually new - just customer order cancellations/etc.

You'll be missing out if you don't get a good grinder too though. The Iberital mentioned is awesome (I also have it and the Classic), if a little fiddly at times.

edit: beaten :p

Rode to work on the Charge Spoon saddle I bought from R0B75 this morning.

Bit early to know for sure but it felt comfortable.

I've been on my Charge Scoop for about 200 miles now and it's finally starting to feel natural. I don't think that's the Scoop's fault though - the old PX saddle I was using was so cack that it's taking a while for my muscles to readjust.
