Would also suggest a kaveri build. The small premium for 2400 memory is worth it IMO.

Don't want to go to 'budget' as would prefer a noticeable (in a good way) all-round difference.

If it helps I put together the most budget of budget PCs a few weeks ago built around a Pentium G3420 (same as an i3 but no hyperthreading) and a small SSD and honestly it's perfectly snappy as a general use PC. It's amazing I think that these days you can buy the "budget" parts and get such a good product. The parts cost was only about £250 for the tower!

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Looks like the CPU cooler I chose is too big to fit into the Corsair case so will need think the build through some more and also look into your suggestions.

Thanks for your help.

I think that's a bit of a stretch.

Kaveri's issue is its pricing.

from what i read a 7850k pretty much matches a haswell i3 in cpu power, not that far off!
from what the op said it looks like he wants to do more cpu intensive stuff so the i5 he originally speced himself would be far better, the intel hd 4600 integrated graphics it comes with is no slouch either and more than adequate for what he describes, its not like he'll be using gpu power anyway!

Yes, I agree. You don't want to go with a APU solution, a decent Intel CPU is most defiantly worth it.

Id say this, its got everything, great apu with matching amd ram at a good speed, psu with the option to add a single gpu if you like possibly for hybrid crossfire. Also it is the mini itx form factor, with wifi built in and still a corsair case specced. I changed it to a blu ray player with a dvd re writer in it too because you might use it as a htpc in some sense?

Used the saving to put towards a tower case:-

Aerocool Xpredator X3 Gaming Tower Case - White/Black - £86.99.

I'll be back if I get any problems building it.

send back the 4670 and get the 4670k so you can overclock it for more performance since you have the motherboard that can do it. (z87) the regular 4670 cant be overclocked
