The Console Market Is In Crisis: Hardcore gamers better off with high end gaming PC than the current

Is it even possible to optimise games on PC since anyone can be using any hardware type available?

I mean Person A could have dual core, £50 graphics card from either of the big two with 2GB of RAM, whilst person Z has octo core with a £1000 graphics card and 16GB of RAM. Then you have all the people in between with all sorts of hardware.

Essentially is it therefore not impossible to optimise PC games?

Same thing with android and iOS, games and apps run better on iphone not because their hardware is better but simply because it's well optimised because there's only a handful of mobiles to design for, with android there's millions of combinations of hardware.

Therefore PC gamers don't have a leg to stand on when comparing specs.

if i wanted to spend hours tinkering with graphics settings, and config files, i'd buy a pc. but seriously, all i want to do is buy it, take it out the box, plug it in, insert a disc and start playing. and i can thanks to consoles. screw pc's. i don't care for uber graphics anymore :p

Have you never bought a PC game? you know how they have min specs and recommended specs to run the game? So yes you can optimize a PC game to run to a standard set of specs.

lol

that's because that is the minimum spec needed in order for the game to run and recommended spec for the game to run smoothly.

doesn't mean it's optimised for those specs.

Got sick of PC gaming a while ago. Always found myself obsessing over graphic and FPS tweaking and benchmarking instead of actually just playing and enjoying the game.

That's how I feel, and every one of my mates too.
I think we are too busy, or too old and lazy now to bother with PC's.

I don't find the extra bump in graphic quality is enough to make me put in the extra effort.
OK, so lots of times there is no extra effort involved but you never know when an issue will crop up and I really can't be bothered to deal with them when they do.
My PC has sat without a GPU in for 2 months now as an unknown error is stopping the PC booting when it's in. The GPU works fine in another PC though.
So...screw that, nobody has a clue why it does it so I've just left it for my wife to work on.

Shame as there are some cool unique games on PC I like to play now and then so I will have to sort it out at some point but I just find consoles very appealing as a plug and play device - PS3 started to annoy me with downloads/installs but as the PS4 can do them all in the background like a PC and use more of my fibre speed to do it then it's been brilliant.

If I didn't have the PS4, I'd be working to fix my PC. But the new console has just made me ignore PC completely now

The new pc I built cannot play the one and only game i used to love playing Counter Strike Source or Global Offensive even though it is vastly superior to all previous systems I have owned.

It keeps on glitching randomly where I cannot control my guy for a few seconds. So say i'm in the middle of a firefight and it happens I'm dead.

Obviously makes the game unplayable. I've tried re-installing windows and all sorts, I was contemplating trying windows XP but never got round to it and lost interest.

PEBKAC

I like the PC not being "mainstream", having little kids F'ing about this and that used to do my head in. I like the fact that the PC Is for grown ups and people that have to put a bit of effort in to game

Have you played online before? Popular games like LoL are full of these so called adults who have created some of the most toxic online gaming communities ever.
May just be the nature of any kind of MMO though.

The console market is in crisis despite the XB1 and PS4 selling at least double their predecessors in the first 6 weeks of sale, and all this with the technology being out dated...

PEBKAC isn't always the case.

I wanted to play the Prepare to die edition of Dark Souls. Installed it from Steam, At which point I had to then reinstall the games for windows software. And then I launched the game, You'd expect it to play.... Nope. Crashed.

Tried again. Crashed.

Had to go do a bit of research, apparently uninstalling Games for Windows software, and reinstalling an older version fixed the issue.

Not exactly straight forward!!

Same with wanting to play old games, Where you get the horrible pink texture issues, Birth of the federation is a favourite of mine. Does not like playing under newer Operating Systems lol.

Flip side, do you remember trying to play Skyrim for extended periods of time on PS3? The lag fest? Eww lol.

Clearly you have no idea.

my pc exceeds the recommended spec for CSS and CS:GO

why does the game glitch for 2-3 seconds completely randomly then go back to running smoothly?

why hasn't re-installing the game or windows sorted this?

if the game was optimised to run on my system it would work. but they are not optimised at all it's a one size fits all solution which sometimes throws up errors and glitches like the above on some systems because of the sheer number of different pieces of hardware the game is designed to run on.

why have hundreds of other people with decent spec PC's all got the exact same problem?

why has nobody found a fix for any of us?

it's very much like programming for android and iOS. one has a set handful of sku's the other has thousands of possibilities.

that's why some android apps don't work on all android devices.

Because it was not designed to run on your operating system maybe?

LMAO

i'm running windows 7, i have also tried vista

http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=2323&game=Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2672043

the game just won't work with something specifically in my system yet all other games work fine.

and the game ran fine on the previous 3 systems using the exact same OS's.

i believe i also had the problem on XP with this system, i just checked my backup OS and it is windows XP, so i have tried 3 different OS's and this system has a problem with CSS and CS:GO

it has to be the motherboard or drivers for the motherboard that don't work with the game causing the glitch. i've ruled out everything else.

My PC is Quad core i5 with 8GB of RAM and a mid end ATI graphics card.

it exceeds all the specs by quite a bit.
