So I am starting to think about replacing my beloved Audi A4 B6 2.5tdi Quattro.

I have a rough idea as to what I want but am just looking for some suggestions as to what to get next.

So here is a bit of list as to what I want and dislike.

Want:
4 wheel drive
Saloon or hatch
Up to £9k
Manual
Up to 60k miles max
Look smart.

Dislike:
Golf
A3
Evo's
Older impreza

I have been looking at other Audi Quattro's, as well as the newer hatchback impreza, but I am struggling to find/work out other models from other manufacturers that make 4x4 saloon/hatch cars. Suggestions as to what models to look at would be great.

The 4WD requirement is going to make this awkward. As far as hatchbacks go you've covered the Golf/A3 and new Impreza which basically are the only ones with any form of 4WD.

All I can think of in saloons is another VAG or some kind of Subaru Legacy?

Yeah I knew I would be limited. I was just putting some feelers out to see if there was anything I may have missed to consider.

She's getting on a bit now (51 plate), just approaching 90k and I fancy something newer. Been a fantastic car and I absolutely love the factory fitted Votex Body styling.

Unfortunately not a lot of manufacturers brought their 4wd models to the UK.

So...

this.

Unless you can get Mk5 R32s in budget. I haven't looked.

Do you care about fuel economy?

R32, I just straight up dislike Golfs.

Struggling to find a single S4 within the constraints I set in my first post.

I do care about fuel economy not sure how much though! :P

Cheers for the suggestions so far everyone.

Mazda 6 mps?
fair few silver ones about atm.
black/red/grey also kicking about altho in limited quanitity.

Road tax of I think 475 on the newer ones registered after 23/03/06 registered before that tho can nab it in the tax band below :D 280 or summit a year.

I'm still on the search for a low tax red one :(

Personally, having had an S4 in the past, I would get the Avant. Much nicer looking IMO, and easier to sell.

Have you looked at Volvos? They do a 4wd car too.

Is there any particular reason for wanting 4wd? winter tyres on my BMW 335d and it was excellent. Totally made the panic buying of my Range Rover redundant.

Dont think I'm after an S4.

Did not know about the Mazda 6 MPS so another Eye opener and something else to consider.

I find myself returning to look at hatch WRX impreza's.

What models do Volvo make awd?

Reasons for AWD is that I live in mid wales and when we get snow we do get a lot of it. I have a long steep drive up to my house and anything with out 4 wheel drive fails to make it. I also travel about to various places all on the back roads in winter.

Some Volvo S60s and V70s come with AWD.

Have you ever tried accessing your drive with a 2wd on winter tyres?
You'd be surprised how effective winter tyres can be with only 2 driven wheels.
Nothing beats 4WD and winter tyres though :)
