Bob Crow RIP

I doubt this! Strikes are announced in advance any sensible business would have contingencies, obviously yours didn't bother and your lack of preparation cost you

What claptrap, the whole point of strikes was to cause exactly that sort of damage. If it could be mitigated they would not be worth doing. It costs small firms £600 million every time a strike was called, contingency or not.

Eh, what is the problem.

he's someone who doesn't require it but is still occupying it... meanwhile others who don't have six figure salaries are still waiting for suitable accommodation

yes on one hand we should build more but on the other hand we need to make some serious changes to the system - in particular disposing of property in prime areas in order to fund the building of more homes in other areas and start means testing...

Yes you are correct, but he decides to live in that house where he could live elsewhere, you could bring the argument up that the massive sell off of council houses by Thatcher and these we not replaced, the system is broken i agree.

As much as I despised everything he stood for, he's still a friend, father and a human being that has died and left behind many people that will mourn him.

Irrespective of your feelings for him, please show a little restraint from your nasty comments.

This. I couldn't stand the bloke, but going out celebrating anyone's death is just crass.

There will always be a spectrum of wealth.. unless you want communist state.
The length & breadth of the spectrum are quite the issue mind.

We don't have to accept either extreme economic inequality or switch to Marxists communism - many intermediary states exist.

Indeed well said. (I felt the same way about Thatcher) - attack what the person stood for, not the person.

Instructive comparing Right's broadly sympathetic reaction to Bob Crow death with Left's vicious, exultant crowing on Thatcher's, isn't it?

In politics it is important to distinguish a person from their attitudes and political positions. Very sorry a family lost their relative.

You cannot pick and choose. Any restriction on earnings is in essence a communist state whatever you want to call it. Any country that has tried to adopt a political stance left of centre was regressive. And only capitalists have ever provided progress. Even China didn't start to truly progress until capitalism came in through the back door

You think a left leaning economy will result in less poor people but history is lettered with examples that left leaning economies actually make more poor people. Yes capitalism is far far from perfect, but at least it gives people that want to work hard opportunities

It seems that both sides have their lunatic fringe :(

As a previous (now removed so not repeated) post alluded to, comparable to Bob Crows own reaction to Thatchers death. I dont think he can be compared to a Thatcher though, but certainly he was memorable.

RIP Bob. Somebody who trully had beliefs and the convictions to stand up and fight for them. If only there were more of you to stand up for the rights of the working person in this country, we may live in a more equitable place.

That must be why there are so many poor people in Norway.

I'm what you'd consider a lefty but I've never particularly liked the unions, above grass roots level (and even then I've known some self serving shop stewards in my time (and some bloody good ones)), and I've never particularly liked Bob Crow but I'm glad I've come to this thread after the moderation has happened as I'm sure some peoples comments would have made me sick.

He wasn't a paedophile, rapist or murderer so no matter what I thought of him I certainly won't take any pleasure in his death as I didn't Thatcher who I loathed from an ideological point of view,

Just googled that as I'd forgotten:
"I won't shed one single tear over her death. She destroyed the NHS and destroyed industry in this country and as far as I'm concerned she can rot in hell".
.

I had the same feelings. Unions are like police...you don't like them until you need them ;)

RIP :(

Rip, I fundamentally disagree with him on almost everything, and although he showed no respect to his political opponants on their death, he still has mine.
