*** The Official Dark Souls II Thread ***

Well its a game date, I need to get my backlog started so its probably best to do something like this. I wont be able to touch til April at a guess - have I got you on PSN?

ps3ud0

Not sure but if not my PSN is...........Noxia. I wish you could put little notes next to friends to remember who they are. Did you get the Prepare To Die edition as well? Just remembered that Demons Souls was a PS+ treat one month I think, if so I'll download it tonight.

What type of game is this most like?

I have played Skyrim/Fallout ect. Is it much like that?

Hmm not really like either of them...though there be dragons. It is a third-person RPG in the classic sense but DS games are just...different. I don't really know what else to liken them to.

No it isn't :)

Both are great but I prefer Demon's.

Noxia I didn't understand world tendencies either at the time and I still got to the end (twice). Amazing experience I think I got over 70 hours out of it.

Oh don't get me wrong, I prefer Demon's Souls too. But I'm pretty sure Dark Souls is better in every way from a gaming point of you.

No swearing - Davey Game i knew this would happen, they have now messaged me saying they are no longer stocking the hard back guide so my order has been cancelled.

Even though it was at the processing stage earlier

Basically they stuffed up there allocation i bet

Now i hope i get my black armour game, as they are marked as out of stock on the site now

I was gutted I missed the pre order of the Black Armour edition, out of stock. And they were out of the Collectors too, so had to go for the boggo version in the end.

Amazon still has it as a preorder but i bet they dont have any , did that with ni no kuni and waited weeks after the game came out and just cancelled lol

The best way I can explain is they are the root of modern games, even though they are modern them selfs.

The game doesn't care for polishing like other RPG's, it cares for the level of detail in the story, even though it's totally absent. If you search for it, you can find a story much deeper than that in TES!

The level design is something they thrive on, you can see an open field, but to a skilled player, they will see multiple routes that are shortcuts, tricks and little hidden paths to get to an area quicker or give an advantage.

You might think "huh, if I jump off this ledge with a roll, I can reach that over there and skip that area entirely!"... This is intentional, 99% of the game is like that and it's all intentional.

Your hand is NOT held, there is no tutorial so to speak, it's all classic gaming, trial and error. Walk into a room and be beaten down by an enemy with a HUGE axe. You die, ah you think, 'he is slow', take off your gear and roll around him, kill him. It's all tactile, you don't simply kill enemies, you out smart them. The entire game is like this, you evolve as a player the further you play.

There is a real sense of achievement here. If you have patience and the will to explore and stick to it to find out just what is round the corner, what might happen if you kill that boss, where that path might lead despite it being covered in dragons... Then this game is for you.

Gameplay wise, it's basic yet incredibly in depth. It starts out as basic timing and learning the enemy movement and attacks. But then you start to get into effects, stuns, advanced timings for parrys etc etc.

It's just a indepth game without clean polish but stunning in it's own way.

Gameplay > Level design > Story

That's how it went I think it went in terms of priority with the devs.

Pre-Orders mean NOTHING these days, there is no need for it.
You've been generally negative in all of your posts in this thread, as you are in quite a lot of your posts. Get over yourself.

Pre-orders might not mean anything to you, but they do to people wanting special or limited editions before they sell out, or just those wanting a cheap pre-order deal.

Any one expecting the guide will be equally dissapointed

Namco has just told me via twitter the guide now wont be available in the uk.

Wtf

That explains why Game removed it from their site and Amazon have told me it's not available to release day. Sad times.

Im gutted dude as i loved flicking through the guide for the first game for lore etc on my second play

Bit ****** of them to leave it til now to say

Never mind, i changed my delivery address to my work so i wouldnt miss recieveing the bigger parcel but now it wouldnt have mattered but is too late to change it back lol hopefully it comes on time

DS2 tip!

When climbing down a ladder, if you tap the sprint button you will jump off - to your death if you're high up.

Worth noting as the game does not tell you this, yet in previous games this action would slide you down the ladder instead.

Sneaky little change

I'll bear that in mind.

I remember Ubisoft doing a similar thing in Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. In the first Splinter Cell RB would put Sam with his back against the wall to peek, in Pandora Tomorrow they changed that button to whistle... Needless to say I got attention when I didn't want it the first time I found out bout that :)

They better be bull****ting. What a ****ing joke if it's true. I'm honestly close to boycotting this game despite being my most anticipated game ever. Having the PC version delayed until the 25th April and only announcing it a week beforehand is a kick in the teeth for PC players and no (Collectors edition?) guide in the UK is just BS.

Im very ****ed about the guide and they still havent officially come out and said it, they have just pulled the orders and told me when i asked about it :/

So how long have they known for! My order was processing etc then they said they dont stock the item that i ordered 1-2 months ago

But the option to preorder is still up on amazon, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dark-Souls-Collector-27s-Edition-Guide/dp/3869930675

But they have another link that doesnt have a order option http://www.amazon.co.uk/Souls-Collectors-Edition-Strategy-Guide/dp/0744015472
God knows

It appears the second link was added today as its dated the 11th and they just havent removed the other and will happily take false orders

I honestly had no idea people cared that much about game guides.

I don't particularly care, I only really wanted it as a collectors item and I enjoy have a look at the artwork and maps included. What I do care about is a product being pulled in a specific territory despite having pre-orders up for months.

This ^

Its not a game i would use a guide for as it would ruin it but the book was a nice thing to have, high quality and good for a second play through to learn more about lore etc

Nevermind, nothing we can do.

Any word on why this guide has been removed? Has it been nerfed by a day one patch perhaps and thus need a re-print?

As said already, I wanted the guide book because it's nice to flick through to understand more about certain items and enemies and in DS1 it was useful to see maps of the areas.
