Just spent days pulling my hair out over why my PC was crashing at regular intervals.

Turns out my M4 SSD needed its firmware updating as there was a fault where once the drive hits 5536 hours 'on the clock' it crashes system every hour.

Thought the problem was memory or mobo...was just about to RMA my mobo...how stupid do I feel!!!

I put this fimware update off until about 4 months ago. Never had random crashes just black screens and long start up times every few boots. No issues since updating though.

That's not exactly news. The firmware fix for that came out over two years ago...

Very true...but I reckon there are quite a few people like me who installed their M4's back in late 2011/early 2012 who have not kept on eye on hardware news.

With 'normal' running people who installed late 2011/early 2012 are now reaching the 5500 hour mark.

I am pretty tech savvy but it never crossed my mind to update the firmware as drive was working perfectly.

Just trying to be helpful...that's what these forums are for aren't they?

See this cropping up a lot at the moment. Lots of old non updated drives knocking around.

Glad you got it sorted :)
