Yes you can. However, I would recommend removing mobo chipset and drivers before installing your new mobo. Then just download and install the new chipset and drivers. It`s a lot quicker than doing a fresh OS install.

Cheers i think im going to need it ;)..does Anybody have any tips as to what to uninstall from my system with regards to me keeping my Hard Drives and changing from My Phenom 2 955 to a Intel I5? One post quotes this "Make sure you definitely remove boot disk interface (IDE ATA/ATAPI
controllers and SCSI and RAID controllers"..im hoping that the full change (MB,CPU,GPU,MEM) is as painless as possible :D..Thanks

As you are changing pretty much every component I would just do a fresh reinstall of Windows for sure. Why are you trying to avoid a fresh reinstall?

Im not Walderx i just wanted the easiest option i suppose..What will happen to my Games\mods etc installed on the C:\drive will they be ok? i know to back up important files\photos etc..any advice? cheers

BTW you won't need 4gb VRAM with a 270X, there's not enough beef there with the 270X to utilise the whole 4gb

Yeah anything that is installed on the C drive windows, eg games, mods, programs, settings will need to be installed again. Standalone data such as photos and videos will of course just work if they are backed up to a separate drive.

I just think you are asking for trouble trying to keep your existing Windows installation on totally brand.new hardware. I would expect bluescreens galore!

^^ That. Common sense talking there. Even if you don't get any bluescreens it's far from the optimum you'll get from a fresh install. I do a fresh install every month, and as my docs and that are on a separate drive I lose nothing. In fact I gain in ways you wouldn't imagine if you didn't do the same. Like a new machine every month.

(no Walder, I ain't stalking) :p

Well they are all very decent boards as far as I am aware. I would be inclined to save the dosh and go for the cheapest Gigabyte board. It still has all the features you could need and you will be able to overlock your i5 with it no problem.
