Wowzers. I hope the passengers' relatives are getting this info way ahead of us. Poor rellies

Not a red herring, just they can't find it... The satellite is from several days ago, the wreckage (whatever it is/was) could have sunk or moved dozens of miles.
[/QUOTE]
On they live press conference on now they've said that Boeing/Rolls Royce have not received any data.
EDIT....
On they live press conference on now they've said that Boeing/Rolls Royce have not received any engine data.
so they are looking in the wrong place, the whole search has been one **** up after another
Boeing wouldn't. They get avionics data. Engine data goes to Rolls Royce.

There was never anything there in the first place.
I think that image is just saying how far it could have got if the 'around four hours' thing from RR/Boeing is correct. The WSJ/its journos did also mention it would have had enough fuel to get past Beijing (obviously).
What do you mean by that? There was something there, maybe not a plane part but something, which hasn't been found...

As i understand it, the data doesnt "go" to Boeing or Rolls Royce. It is broadcast unencrypted and can be picked up by anybody listening for it.
Or have i misunderstood this?
To aid maintenance, most airlines use the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), which automatically collates and files four technical reports during every flight so that engineers can spot problems. These reports are sent via VHF radio or satellite at take-off, during the climb, at some point while cruising, and on landing.
Guardian reporting conference had lots of denials and no real new information.
Go and help find the plane here: http://www.tomnod.com/nod/challenge/malaysiaairsar2014
Read a couple of pages back. We've found lots of boats and clouds and whales
Tomnod is very addictive
Chinese satellite images that were said to show debris from a missing Malaysian airliner were released by mistake, Malaysia's transport minister says.
