Our Bullmastiff caught a burglar last night

Don't let your dog out into the garden on it's own for a while. My uncles Alsation chased off a burglar and a week later it was poisoned by some laced steak (dog died in two days) and a weak after that the garage got broken into.

Oustanding, what a great dog!

Here's our security system having a night off at me mum n dad's.

Wow, awesome story and well done to your Dog.

Out of curiosity, don't suppose you have any pics of the drag marks around the garden? Be interesting to see how much hassle the dog gave the intruder.

Wheres the picture of said dog-beast?

In the OP and post 222. :)

No, sorry. I didn't think tbh, as taking pics of some gravel didn't really pop into my head. In hindsight I wish I had, for posterity if nothing else.

About 8 years ago my dad’s two Akitas caught a burglar in the garden. The guy was 17 and was recently been kicked out of his home because he was addicted to crack and was constantly in trouble with the police. He died of his injuries resulting from the dogs, but it’s OK because the guy was trespassing and the dogs were righteously defending their owner’s property.

^ That story is completely made up, but judging from the comments most people would be fine with that. I think that’s pretty weird. I know death =/= injury but still, I don’t think applauding a dog/owner for savaging someone is right.

You're right, the burglar should've been free to take the guys stuff, hurt his g/f with out risk to himself.

See I can do the extreme end of the specturm thing too!:)

Because all burglers are psycopathic rapists too? The burglar got into the guy's shed. I'd rather lose a few tools than live with the knowledge that there is someone out there that has suffered ingury because of my dog. I'd be more concerned for my gf in the latter scenario too.

OP will probably say the dog did what it was trained to do and didn't injure the trespasser any more than necessary. I accept that but I still wouldn't brag about it on the internet.

Our German Shep did the same a few years ago to a local scumbag, he had bit him on the hand and had a big puncture wound.
Police said he could press charges but told him they would charge him instead if he went ahead.

They had to record the details of my dog for future reference even tho he was only protecting himself.

Now all the local idiots stay well clear.

I didn't think we were. I at least i wasn't.

I'm applauding the dog for protecting the family and chasing off an intruder. The fact he got hurt in the process was just a consequence of his actions.

I applaud the owner for being clear-minded and having a good attitude towards such a situation and training of his dog.

No, the guy got into the shed and then went to get in through the unlocked back door, despite knowing my fiancee was in the kitchen. That's the point he was discovered and fought off by the dog. Given that my car was gone it's entirely possible he knew she was home alone. Either way I won't be shedding any tears for the poor burglar getting more than he bargained for.

If you'd honestly rather have your hard earned possessions stolen than see a burglar accosted by a dog that's your business. I'll wager you're in a bleeding heart minority however.

I thought it was the dog who was meant to roll over.
