Insurance deal for an 18 year old

How can you pass a driving test with FOURTEEN minors? The limit is 15.... aren't you a bit worried? I passed with three minors and I don't think looking back I was very safe.

The above is totally right. Don't let a person who has legally passed a driving test drive a car with tax and insurance.

What a menace.

My quotes come in at about 1k @ 17, 4k miles (will increase this though)

e; fully comp, 14 plate car :D

£1000 is very cheap, I'd bite their hand off at that price. I'm 19 and pay quite a bit more than that with 2 years NCB, granted I'm driving higher risk cars, but £1000 on any car for a new driver is a great deal.

A grand is an absolute steal for an 18 year old!! My first year was £2.2k and it wasn't below a grand until the 3rd year!

Here here! I'm 21 with 4 years experience / 2Y NCB and my insurance is £980 this year. Granted thats on a Fiesta ST, but still, 1K is cheap!

recently passed his test but haven't managed to find anything for less than £1000, which I know, is extremely cheap for a new driver.

That's super cheap. i would have ripped there hand off at that, i was paying around 2k when i was a new driver and was paying upto 1200-2000 for years on everything.
Dam even last year i was paying 650 last year @ 29 with clean licence and 6 year no claims on a 05 derv passat

I agree with everyone else, £1k is cheap as a first year, helped mostly from the EU gender equality law from ~december (I think). I recently had a mate pay £1400 on a 1.2L corsa for their first year after passing their test at 19.

I'm 20, on a 1.2L Clio I had to pay ~£2600 on the first year, £800 second and £360 this year. I'm just waiting for it to shoot back up to around £1000 when I go to something that actually has power rather than essentially ragging a lawnmower.

You might be pleasantly surprised, it tends to be the typical first time cars that have horrible insurance, so something with a bit more power behind it that you don't find in the hands of every second new driver may well be cheaper for you.

Yeah, I was looking at changing back at renewal, where even some hot hatches or a 325/330i would max at about £1000 but something like a 1.6 focus would be around £650-750. Although I'm going to wait until I have any issues with the car or when I finish uni and get into a proper full time job. Car choice can then depend on income vs distance to commute.

This, first year (18) on a 2.0 Focus mk2 was £1200, second year ~£500

I was 34 when I passed my test 2 years ago, cost me £1600 for a zafira, normal 5 seat cars would have cost around £2k.

Best thing you can do is put you on his insurance as a named driver to reduce it a little. He'll build his own no claims that way instead of sitting on yours.

My god, my insurance was like £2200 when I was 17 so £1000 in this day and age seems like excellent value. What car did you get that quote on, a Daewoo Matiz? :p

This.

I got my first car when i was 19, a 1.4 Golf and it cost me just under 2 grand to insure. £1000 is a bargain!

Is there any way to get a car and insure it in my name, and have others be allowed to drive it ect?

If you're going to be the main driver and he's going to use it less than you, it's not fronting and completely legal.

I've found that the factor that reduces insurance the most initially is the duration that the licence has been held.
