Very true!
But if buying new that's not an option, 70k second hand brings a vast amount of options, infact I think that could be 430 money and Lambo money as well. Or R8 V10. The downside is these all will no doubt have far higher running cost than the three new cars without a doubt, no warranty and servicing is a lot more on Ferrari by miles.

Have you looked into the running costs? As I understand it the GTR is very expensive to run, servicing, brakes etc - in the same league as the supercars you mention, where say a GT3 may not cost much more than your current 911 to run.

The GTR will certainly empty your wallet a lot quicker than a cayman.

whats with all these "this car says you cant afford another car" type comments?

with an £80k budget, would you really care?

What is it with people and those comments

Because I have gone with the normal R8 V10 as I didn't want sport suspension, ceramic brakes, carbon interior and race seats that come with the Plus version making it more track oriented, I apparently couldn't afford it.

Same when I had the GTR, I got told by a friends Dad that it was a poor mans 911, If I wanted a damn 911 I would have bought one!

Never buy a car to please other people or the next owner when you sell it, get exactly what you want so you are happy with it.

I would either go for the V6s or wait for the new Cayman gts announced today.

The options work out cheap and more powerrr

Head has to say cayman GTS. Mind you, I'd go for a boxster as for road use the difference in stiffness would be nigh on unnoticeable and you gain a convertible.

Jaguar if you fancied something more unique and noisy.

GTR if you absolutely must have the fastest thing on the road.

A 911 is a totally different car to the F Type and Cayman so don't get those comparisons.

Talking of brand prestige, Porsche trumps Jaguar and Nissan every time.

Out of the 3 I'd take the GTR. £70k is too much for a Cayman.

Also, to throw a curveball, £70k could buy you a nice F430 coupe.

Jag.

You already have a hooligan track whore of an M3 that you could thrash on the roads if and when you required.

The GTR will be a point to point beast, but would you really enjoy it every day, especially as it sounds like a dieing hairdryer? A Cayman, meh, just a Cayman and a lot of money considering you already have a 911. But the Jag is something you'd always be happy to see, sit in, then drive around with that fantastic soundtrack.

Jag Jag Jag for me every day of the week.

Yep they are crazy, hence a used one with Stage 4, exhaust, alcons is simply far better value and though will cost less to run will still cost way more than my current vehicles.

With 80K I would do the following:

- sell all cars
- buy one all round performance car (£20K)
- house deposit

As ultimately none of those cars are a big enough step up from a 911, the pricing reflects the newness, that is all.

Don't worry I am not buying new, though tempting it is, the money to be lost in depreciation would be bonkers, well to me anyway.

But yes if I decided to do this, 911 would be sold, aim for 30k private, trade in values have varied between 22-26k and I'd sell the M3 for 12-15k. The old Jag will never be sold, it can just remain in the family, its simply very reliable and was far too much of a bargain, I see no point in selling a car that is reliable, ok place to be that will only fetch 1k maximum.

In reality I will probably move the 911 on in a years time, enjoy it as now it will be perfect, ceramics on, new clutch, new springs and eventually sell it as it will be a good buy for someone as its being fully serviced, on fresh suspension, new clutch, new brakes and I'm gonna get it detailed as the paint has seen better days.

Drop 50k on a house and have the M3/Jag, then maybe after that look at something like an F-Type Coupe when they are a couple of years old and the big depreciation hit has happened.

Having had all of these in the past couple of years, I'm not sure any of them are the right way to go. I lost $40k on my highly optioned Cayman S so would highly advise against speccing one that high unless you really want it.

The F Type ( I had the V8S ) is an entertaining car but it feels heavier than the GT-R when pushing on, I'm not sure you'll love it after the initial wow factor wears off. I had several issues with build quality and thought the interior felt pretty cheap in places, despite mine having every leather option.

You've spent a while in a GT-R now, it's a rocket and handles well but it comes down to whether you like the feel of it. Having had 2 of them, they're very good cars but perhaps lack a little involvement.

A 430 at the top of your budget isn't wise unless you can set aside another 20k or more as a repair fund.

My money would go one of two ways here - 997.2 GT3 if you have to stay Porsche or drop the budget and buy a lovely manual Ferrari 360 with money to run it.

It's a very tough call.

I think the Porsche would be the most fun/rewarding to drive.

The Jag has the gravitas, the sound, looks and exclusivity as well as being a great car to drive (from what I've read).

The GTR has the sheer engineering brilliance and 4 seats to boot!

I think the Porsche will be the most fun and rewarding car to live with day to day. I think you could buy a new Cayman S (or Boxster S) and enjoy it every day for 5 years.

The others I think will probably be more of an "event" and are probably cars you would own for 6-18 months.

See that sounds more sensible:)

The Porsche would be awesome and I think you'd enjoy every drive you have in it, so long as it's not a commuting tool. I think the looks of a Cayman beat the current 911 (IMHO), they look properly sorted out of the factory.

The Jag, as others have mentioned, is a real head turner and easily the best looking of the lot, however could you really tinker with that sort of motor? Would you want/need to?

As for the GTR, well, there's simply nothing on the road that gets my respect more than a GTR. I know it's not exactly beautiful, but the engineering of the beast is something that has me in awe every time, and it would always be my top choice dream car for under the £100k mark.

Saying that, I'd rather chuck £55k at a year or two old F10 M5, or indeed an M6, and stuff the other options.

GTR gets my vote from the list.

I'd have to go for the GTR. The other two just dont have that special feeling for me and the GTR is somewhat of a unicorn in these parts. There's a Cayman or an F-Type on every corner.
