I think I pre ordered mine about 6months before release when the price was lower. I remember after release I could have sold the whole box for a nice profit. Thought with the number of hours I've put into D2, its only right I got a collectors edition when I heard D3 was coming out (back in 2007/2008 haha!)

I would've got one but unfortunately I never got into the Diablo franchise until after D3 came out, I never stood a chance =(

Might be a noob question but what does the expansion actually add to the game?

I mean obviously I'd imagine there is an additional storyline and a new character class but what are these extra game modes all about?

Basically you get another Act - it has 3 bosses - a wad of zones - 10 level increase - unique legendaries to the expansion.

Crusader Class

Adventure Mode - Short fast tasks in each act a total of 6 which can be repeated and are random each time you login to the game.

Example might be Act1 kill Skele king as a task, clear a specific amount of mobs in a specific dungeon as another task, kill a specific rare in another zone as a task, complete a specific event as a task. Doing these nets you exp and gold as a reward, also the zones are as they normally would be with elites and mobs etc, so you get loot from them too.

Complete all 6 and you get a reward from the quest giver npc, this is more exp, more gold and also a cache which has crafting mats and items / plans inside which can even be legendaries i believe. Also you get fragments which leads to the next bit of adventures

Nephalem Rifts - you open these up with a number of fragments (8 i think?) it opens up a portal in town, entering the portal spawns a unique dungeon with a few levels, each level is a different theme to the previous it seems, they can be full of any type of mob, and are usually packed with elite packs also. There is a progress bar that fills as you clear the dungeons mobs, once it hits 100% a boss spawns, killing him results in a tons of loot / gems / crafting mats etc and also blood shards

Blood shards can be used to trade for items with a ? on them, so you dont know the property, its a total gamble, i however got a legendary belt from them but have mostly gotten rubbish.

And thats pretty much it in a nutshell

Thanks for the summary! :D *reaches for wallet* :p

So without the expansion you still stop at level 60 (plus the "Paragon" levels, which I'm still not entirely sure about tbh!) but with it I assume then that you have to play through the game on whatever difficulty you are currently on, finish the original game and then move onto the "new" act?

Yeah without RoS you get 60 and Paragons, and actualy Paragons are really useful now as you can increase base stats, IAS / Crit dmg, LOH, Run speed all manner of things with them, really works imo.

You can play through the game on any difficulty you want, you can even level from 1 to 70 via Adventure mode purely if that floats your boat, if you wished and was a glutton for punishment you could level from 1 to 70 on Torment6, although i predict you would get to about lvl20 before you toned it down to T1 or lower lol, as packs and stuff would ruin you hard.

If you have never played the game before and was going to buy RoS + D3 vanilla, then i would level a character from 1 to 70 starting at Torment1 til around 20, then dial it back to probably expert til 70, around 65 you will know or not if you need to dial it back further also. But definitely do the game from Act1 to Act5 as it was intended for your first ever run through. After that you can play it however you like, i like doing Bounties on normal if solo and then a rift at the end of each act after i clear the bounties. If im grouping we do T1 and pretty much do the same, bounties and rifts.

Game is so much fun now

I haven't played since a few weeks after release but fancy revisiting for some reason. I think I got as far as Inferno Act 1.

Is it worth getting ROS now or do I have to level a new character to a decent level first?

Also, is the paid auction house still about? Ruined the game imo.

If you been gone that long i would level a new toon, doesnt take long either, id be tempted to buy RoS to give me the flexibility to do bounties and neph rifts if i got bored grinding the story, but its definitely worth doing the game from start to end now, especially with a new character, RoS would give you the crusader to level with also, so effectively you could redo the entire game with a brand new class.

Cheers for the info!

I've had the original since release but lost interest as soon as it became apparent that my monk (lvl 60) was getting absolutely battered in seconds against some of the elite mobs! (I've never agreed with the auction house - feels too much like buying progress in the game!)

A couple of weeks ago I started up again and found I was liking it a lot more and have levelled up my wizard to around 48 on whatever the standard difficulty is! (seems pretty easy so maybe I need to notch it up a bit!)

Yeah you just need to log on and fiddle until it suits your gear and play style.

In a few months when all the gear is found and the stats are recorded then there will be cookie cutter builds.

Well I completed the Campaign had a good time and enjoyed some blessed hammer action with the crusader - Sadly though I think that will be that for me - I grinded the previous diablo game for 5+ years for the loot but I just do not have that interest for this incarnation.

Nice box though !

So can i get some tips for this guy?

Monk.

He stays alive but really does no damage. Trouble is i cant seem to have both i seem to have to pick one or the other. What kinda gear should i be looking for?

I like playing pullmonk tank but i need to be able to solo stuff too.

With one with everything, you want to focus on 1 type of resist + all resists. I picked fire, so if you notice, nearly all my gear has some form of fire resist on it.

Then you want to get some crit chance, via paragon and rings, helm etc, this is where your DPS will come from, stack crit and crit damage, with some attack speed after. You can sacrifice some HP to pump out more DPS.

Finally look for + damage types, my gear has some +fire damage on it, because I focus on fire skills, so if you want to use lightning skills, then stack +lightning damage.

Having just installed default game, I've got 12gb to download - I presume this includes reaper of souls so you can just then buy it and activate?
